Bowl or Bust

Do you know all of the candidates? Rhoads was hired very quickly as well, we don't know everybody that was on the list and likely never will.

Absolutely. JP is probably the only one who really knows who the candidates were, and if he was as sold on CPR as he sounded, he would have no incentive to make an extensive search or reveal the names of coaches who were interested. The wilder speculation is that there were no good candidates but CPR when we might have had the hottest mid-major coach in the country when Chiz was hired had we waited another day or two.

Teams wanted to hire CPR away from us.

Realistically, what schools? CPR did go 7-6 in year one, but has followed it with 5 losing seasons. I know there was speculation early on but sometimes that is stirred up by a coach and his agent to get more money/longer contract. I doubt there was any established football school with Paul at the top of their list with only a year or two of head coaching experience under his belt. There's a lot of rumor and speculation thrown out there when there are coaching vacancies, a lot of it not true.

Rhoads turned down Wisconsin and said he was not interested in December of 2012.

I thought he took himself out of being a candidate but I didn't know (or forgot) that he was offered the job and turned it down. Is there a link indicating he was offered the Wisconsin job, and do you think he would be offered a Power 5 conference job now that there is a larger body of work to judge?

Wisconsin contacted Rhoads. Rhoads told Wisconsin that he was not interested in the Wisconsin job.

So Wisconsin was interested in Rhoads. You implied that schools were not interested. And you implied that it was all made up by CPR and his agent.

there...FIFY.

The guys not a bad coach if that's what this argument has turned into. If he was a bad coach he wouldn't have made it this long here and would have never made a bowl game.

I don't think he is a bad coach either. There is some credence to the fact that the potential big 12 implosion hurt his recruiting. But eventually you have to produce and the time is now.

This season is important. No one is arguing that it isn't.

I don't think he's a bad football coach. I just don't think he's cut out to be the head coach of a D1 football team. Especially for a historically dormant football program. That kind of turnaround takes someone special. They have to have a unique vision. Can't go about things the traditional route.

Disagree. Iowa State is an extremely tough job. One of the toughest Power 5 Conference Coaching Jobs in the nation. And the Cyclones play a difficult schedule every year. The schedule is difficult going forward anyway. In the past we had years of easier schedules. And that is no longer the case.

We are making strides going forward. Just wondering who the "someone special" is that you feel should replace CPR. Since you obviously think that CPR needs to be replaced.

I'm shocked you disagree! I have no idea who that someone special is. I just don't think it's Rhoads.
