Really good interview.

A couple things that stood out to me

I've heard Monte talk about it before, but he give more good insight to just how tough last year was for him with Kane. I think he said something in this interview about being unable to get out of his commitment to ISU.

We got Monte because he called Michigan back 11 minutes too late! (Derrick Walton called first)

It was a good reminder of how emotionally difficult it is on these kids - Monte spoke of the self-talk he had with himself after the UBA loss and not being able to watch the next few games until he told himself to "man up" and get over it - take the wins as well as the losses and make it motivation for next time (not his exact words but my summary )

It's pretty normal when you're recruited over. But it all worked out fine for him id say.

He didn't say he wanted to leave... but was talking about how is expectation was to start from the very first game and how he had to work for it with Kane -which made him better in the long run. They were asking Monte to give Mr. Basketball this year some advice and he used that story to illustrate the point of having to work every day

Monte's buzzer beater in the tournament made the "Plays of the Season" shown on ESPN's College Basketball Award Show. It's right at the end of the plays. They run this segment right after the first award.

Way to go Monte! Way to go Cyclones!

Outside looking in- I think his value on the court flows from his maturity . Young man has a great deal of it.

It's great credit to Monte (and his mom) that he was so mature during the whole process. I know that in the preseason, there was some doubt if he was ready to play much at all that freshman year. It could have been easy to pout and to blame, but Monte went out and worked hard and showed the coaches that he was too good to keep off the floor. And while it couldn't have always been easy with DeAndre, Monte has gone out of his way to really give credit to him for helping him that year.

Monte's going to hit another shot like that next year, it's just going to happen in late March instead of early.

I remember an interview (could be the same one) right after Kane committed where Monte was asked something along the lines of 'now that Kane has been brought in and has the starting spot secured...' And you could see the frustration in Monte's face.

Question made me wince; why would you word it like that? IIRC it was one of the solid local reporters but as I don't remember which one I won't guess.

My guess is ask him now and he'll say playing against a full grown man helped him more than starting from day one could.
