Five Iowa State players were signed by NFL teams through free agency after the two-day draft ended Sunday night – receiver Todd Blythe by New Orleans, quarterback Bret Meyer by Washington, linebacker Jon Banks by Buffalo, tight end Ben Barkema by Cleveland and long snapper Matt Purivs by Chicago.

Players signing free agent contracts have no guarantees of making the team. :biglaugh:

Very unlikely that all of them will make it, but not sure why that's funny... Best of luck to all of them!

I am pumped to see Banks picked up. I think he was very underrated as an athletic linebacker.

I think Barkema has a chance. He was good at catching the football when we actually threw to him. I remember him making some pretty athletic plays. Obviously, he would most likely be used for blocking, but he may surprise some people with his hands.

looks like the redskins are some what excited about BM

Washington Redskins

Quarterback Bret Meyer joins the Redskins as one of five QBs on the off-season roster. He is expected to compete with rookie draft pick Colt Brennan and first-year player Sam Hollenbach for a backup job. He completed 233-of-382 passes for nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions as a senior at Iowa State.

I think that Barkema is too small for a tight end and too slow for an H back. I could definitely see him in the AFL
