Rick Barnes is History

Mark Few isn't leaving Gonzaga unless he retires or has 5+ straight losing seasons and is shown the door.

A lot of people said the same about Mike Riley. If Texas throws enough $ at Few, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he left the Zags

Wow...how does the media even think Hoiberg would be a candidate for this job? I mean ANY job in the Big 12 let alone a non-pro job?

Except he has said repeatedly he likes his life in Eastern Washington as there is very little stress there and he has no intention of leaving until he's done. Unless you also believe every single rumor about Hoiberg leaving Iowa State as well. Some people are just happy where they're at.

Would Gregg Marshall take Ron Baker with him? I think Baker will graduate this year.

UT's private jet seen warming up at Bergstrom. Has filed a flight plan taking it to Cleveland.

Look, I can start a rumor.

It's a stretch of basketball that is unprecedented in Texas hoops. I understand the issues of complacency and needing new blood, new energy. But the arrogance of Texas fans has them expecting elite eight appearances every year. Their new hire will undoubtedly fail.

He hasn't taken them past the second round since 2008. Texas has had way too much talent over that time for a SS berth 7 years ago to be the most recent highlight. If they're willing to spend the money to lure a Marshall-type to Austin, the program can take a huge step forward.

I'll be a big fan of whoever he lands with next.

Yes, there's something to be said for class. Hopefully, he stays in orange, same wardrobe, and at UT.

Why, what? Wasn't it fun to hate Norm Stewert, Billy Tubbs, Roy Williams (hatred still burns) etc? Was for me. I just couldn't bring myself to hate Rick Barnes. Great guy, by all accounts. The prospects of Marshall at Texas has me salivating.

Because you will have something to hate? I guess that's one way to do sports.

People on twitter are reporting that Shaka is in talks with Texas.T

This would annoy me. I really, really like Shaka. VCU is a team that I follow closely because of him. And if Hoiberg ever left, the two coaches that Iowa State could hire that would be somewhat OK with me would be Shaka and Hornacek.

This. Barnes seems like a good guy from the accounts I've heard. But...the source I saw had him listed as the 11th highest paid coach in DI MBB, and IMO the on-court performance just wasn't there for that kind of salary and the talent he brought in.

I hope UT finds a good coach that can push the Big 12 to a higher level of play. IMO, there isn't a Final Four quality team in the league right now, and there hasn't been for the past three seasons, except perhaps last year with ISU and a healthy Niang. That needs to change. The league has good talent, an exciting style of play for the most part, and teams that can play well for stretches, but nothing like a Wisconsin that brings consistent physically/mentally tough play for (usually) a full 40 minutes game after game.

IMO, the Big 12 is at a point now where a team can get away with a good deal of not fundamentally sound play and still finish well in the conference. In the long run, I don't think that's a good thing. Not that long ago, there were several years (2004, 2006, 2007) where the Big 12 (with 12 teams) could only manage four teams in the NCAA tourney. In 2007, KSU was 10-6/21-10 and couldn't get in the tourney, largely because of the reputation of the league. Don't want to go back to those days...

texas will hire a really good coach, IMO. Shaka Smart would be a great hire obviously, but Larry Kystowviak is also rumored to be on the list. I really like this guy as well and think either would be great for our league.

Kinda wish I was still in Austin so I could witness the hysteria again. The hysteria surrounding the replacement for Mack was awesomely hilarious.
