Arrogant KU fans

Their arrogance also comes from their head coach. It really rubbed me the wrong way when he kept saying that the BigXII championship win basically did not matter and that everyone would forget about it by Sunday night. He really isn't the most gracious loser. And you wonder why their fans repeat the same garbage?

I don't think he was saying it to be arrogant. He's 100% correct about it, also. It's a three day tournament that is quickly forgotten within 24 hours because, you know, the greatest sporting event on Earth "starts" the next day.

It would also be correct to say the regular season title matters even less.

I agree he was not incorrect in what he was saying, but the reason he was saying it was just to downplay their loss/our win. The same way he spent the press conference after KSU ******** about the court storm. He is a great deflector/manipulator. Unlike other coaches that spend a good part of their press conference giving props to the other team, he always makes it about something else. Watch his next press conference after a loss and you'll see what I mean.

Had an absolute blast in KC. Talking everything from BB to beer with some KU "neighbors" was one of the more interesting highlights. That was after an early verbal dust-up when they disparaged our booing early in the UT game.

Because they are Mizzou football fans. Seriously, I am not joking.

They were so ****** at ISU and ESPN last night for not including "tournament" on the hats. They don't realize the Conference is the one that supplied them.
Wow...Do you really know a Jayhawk fan that is a Mizzou football fan? I went to KU and have lived in KC for 30 years and have hundreds of KU friends and never known a single one that doesn't hate everything Mizzou. Anybody capable of making this comment should never be allowed to post about another team...ever.

By the way you are judging internet fans not real fans. All my friends think ISU has the best team in the conference this year. I don't know a single KU person that really thinks KU is very good. Most admit this years team is one of the worst in a decade. KU was lucky ISU messed up and lost some games they shouldn't and Barnes coaches at Texas.

Before the KU game visited with a couple of fans. One confessed to be from Iowa and a converted hawkeye fan. Guy wanted to needle and was ever so confident, and only so happy to let me know that KU was 9-1 historically in the championship game. Better record than semi's and quarter's. Would have loved to see him after the game to quote him his new record. We all know past history is irrelevant.

On KU's Scout board, there is a post titled "call your final four". Nearly a third are putting Iowa State in their final four. (Way fewer, than a third, are placing KU in their final four.)

There are a lot of KU's fans that respect the ISU basketball team. (They just don't want to admit it.)

The big difference is that KU has to go through UK to get to the final four, ISU has a much easier road and wouldn't have to face UK until the championship game. I would love to see it, though.

Having spent the last 4 days both inside the arena and outside at P&L, it was obvious this tournament was far from meaningless. The atmosphere was amazing in both places. Better than most home games, better than any non-conference game, better than any other pre-season tournament.

KU won't survive past this weekend. They're gonna lose to Wichita State, a team they refuse to play during the regular season.

The atmosphere is the best of any conference tourney. It needs to stay in KC. Most KU fans put the NCAA first, the conference season 2nd and the tourney 3rd. That might be because KU has had two coaches in a row that have downplayed the tourney and the school itself doesn't hang banners for the tourney. But once it's up and running KU fans aren't being truthful if they tell you they don't want to win it.

I'm pretty sure they don't refuse to play WSU. They refuse to agree to a home and away series with WSU. If WSU agreed to come to Phog Allen with no promise of a return visit it would probably happen. I don't blame them, they really have nothing to gain by doing a deal with WSU. They can get all of the quality matchups they want, mostly on their terms.

I wouldn't hold my breath on WSU taking out KU, even with Cliffy biding time for the NBA in warmups and Perry hobbled. WSU really hasn't demonstrated they can take out a top tier team this year.

All I know is what I heard the announcers say when that bracket was shown -- Wichita State, a team that Kansas refuses to play (okay, it was something like that.) Anyway, what goes around comes around...

This is all true, but it seems like the NCAA pretty much forced their hand with this matchup and I love it. I think WSU would play KU with a chip on their shoulder and I would not be surprised to see them win in a close game. The sweetest thing about it would be that KU would have no chance for revenge, as they don't play them during the season and you know that WSU would never let them forget this loss. Trust me, phog.net would crash or have to be shut down for a few days.

I had a KU fan try to tell me that the Sprint Center wasn't Hilton South, it was Allen Fieldhouse East. I thought it was hilarious.

Well, come on. It has been AFH East for years. You guys came along and are stealing the name from us! Maybe, after two years straight of winning there, it is all well and good and is fun payback, but how would you feel if a team copied your idea? Remember, you started calling it this after just one consecutive win! After two straight, you are are getting close to having the right to rename it, but coping what KU previously named it is not cool. Surely you guys could come up with something more creative. You look a bit silly by simply copying our name for it. If you disagree, I would love to hear an explanation that is not "hilarious". :)

Any way, someone else here thought Self's comments that he will 'forget about the conference tournament tomorrow' as being arrogant is totally off the mark. Self has said many times that when a game is over, you may think about it for a day, but then you have to forget about it and start preparing for the next game. Fans on here have said as much. I mean, really, do you think Fred is thinking about the win right now? Of course not! He is preparing for the next game - he and the players can't afford the luxury thinking about the win as, right now, IT MEANS NOTHING! Get it? As great as you guys did last Saturday, as happy as you fans are, IT DOESN'T MATTER now! I mean, yes, it matters because you won some extra games and all of that, and you gained some great bragging rights and you got to tweak some Jayhawks, but win or lose that tournament, what difference did it make? Win or lose, you have a nice seed in the National Tournament gained by your OVERALL performance during the year. Did your winning the tournament change your seeding much? Actually, you should be happy it didn't - happy that the tournament does not count for much - because if it did, you would be stuck in the UK bracket right now! KU recognizes it is the strength of schedule and pre-season and conference wins that matters. If you play well during the year, the tournament really does mean squat.

The problem you are having is that you don't understand that KU judges our success by playing the best season in the conference and how we do in the national tournament. Think about this. What if McKay was injured at the start of the second half of the game last Thursday and had to sit out the rest of that game out? You guys lose, right? Even if McKay was ok the next day, you still watch OU and KU battle it out Saturday, and you get don't even get 3rd place. Would you all not be upset if the selection committee punished you for your performance in the conference tournament? Would you not be saying that your seeding should not be dropped for one stinking game after an entire season of high-level performance?! ????? Do you get it now???? Do you now get that the conference tournament really is not that important in the overall scheme of things?

So, yes, KU fans care about winning, but we are not lying that losing the conference tournament doesn't really matter. All it is doing for us is delaying our healing and our planning for the big dance.
