Not sure what the rules state but the scenario is DeMarco Murray enters free agency and is offered 10 Million per year with another team. Dallas offers 7 Million per year. Does Murray have the right or flexibility to choose the lower contract? I would assume he could test the market and take a lesser contract if he so chooses.

Yes because Murray is an unrestricted free agent. He can do whatever he wants.

Restricted free agents are more limited. If they sign an offer sheet with a new team, their current team has the opportunity to match the offer and keep the player at those terms.

Good question. He obviously can choose to play wherever he wants, at whatever price I'm assuming. But he will get a lot of pushback from the players union if he takes less than he can.

I have never understood that at all? If I like playing where I am, and my family likes the community, etc, then of course I would take less than going to someplace like Cleveland for more money. But the union will fight him on it, I guarantee you.
