Re: Help me call out KCRG!!!

Just to clear things up for those who don't know: KCRG is the ABC affiliate based in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. They have the largest coverage in the eastern third of the state, and most of the population base. (As a side note, they also have pretty much the best local news team I've ever had the pleasure of watching.)

Regardless, it's true- I don't think they realize how many Cyclone fans there are in eastern Iowa.

get an HD TV! It is soooo worth it. I love it when Kcci puts one game on the HD stream and another on the regular stream. A few years ago they did this all the time, not sure if they still do.

Too bad the games are not actually in HD, I just finished replacing my last SD tv and cannot handle SD anymore.

be polite and NOT A JERK when complaining...

Let them know your need.

You know goddamn well this wouldn't happen with the Hawkeyes in eastern Iowa too.

If I didn't have 2 kids, car loans and a morgage I would be fine. Most people cannot afford an HDTV and the monthly subscription unless they are very well to do! And no this would not happen to the hawks!!!:frown3qg:

You don't need any monthly subscription for HD Channels. The best possible HD signal you can get is over-the-air. With that being said, you will need a true HD tv-set, not an HD-ready set.

I believe that you don't actually need an HDTV. My tv has a digital tuner (Standard Digital TV, not High-Def TV), so I am able to pickup the digital signals of HDTV over the air. The picture is great, although not true HDTV quality. I think you can pick up the digital signal on an analog TV using rabbit ears and a digital-to-analog convertor. The picture not be HD quality, but should be at least as good as over-the-air usually is.

FYI, over the next couple of years all stations will switch from analog to digital over-the-air broadcasts. If your tv does not have a built in digital tuner, you will be required to buy the digital-to-analog converter to view over-the-air progamming. The switch is being made to free up the airwaves for military and emergency usage in the analog format. Most stations are currently simulcasting analog and digital broadcasts. The digital broadcasts use a slightly different numbering convention. For example, KCRG analog is channel 9. KCRG digital is 9.1 and 9.2. Some stations broadcast three channels (X.1, X.2, X.3). This allows one station two broadcast up to three shows at the same time. From what I've seen so far, the X.1 channel is the HD signal, the X.2 channel is digital but with lower picture quality, and if there is an X.3 it's usually a 24/7 weather report/doppler radar.

All of this info is on the web. Here's the scoop from the FCC: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html

Randall,
I’m not sure where you are getting your information, but it’s not correct. Tonight’s game is the only game that will be broadcast on KCRG-DT. However, the game will also be available to all Mediacom Digital Cable customers on channel 109. Anyone with an analog set who subscribes to Mediacom digital cable will be able to watch the game. Let me know if you have any further questions.

first post but just a clarification :wink0st:

This is what I got (of course I didn't check my email until the game was over - @$*%@#$*!):

John,

We are indeed showing it on our 9.2 digital sub channel. The American Music Awards will be on our main channel 9.1 but the Iowa State game will be in standard definition on 9.2 and not upconverted to 720P. You will be able to pick it up over the air with an ATSC digital tuner.

I hope this helps to answer you question,

Thanks,
