What if I told you that Lickliter had more conference wins then McDermott their last 3 years they coached. But all Iowa fans tell you that Fran inherited a program that was in way worse condition then the one Fred inherited.

Greg had a better overall record, and recruited better. Although a lot of those guys left, at least Fred had Garrett and Scotty when he took the job.

Fred had better players and facilities when he came in and a more notable name. No one is going to argue Fran is a better coach. If this is the bombshell you tried to scare people with on twitter, you need to step away from the key board.

Is that you Morpheus?

Seriously though. GMac did recruit Ejim for ISU. That alone puts him ahead of Lickliter.

better facilities? what the new building was built after Fred was here. And ISU was a more notable name then Iowa in 2009 I doubt that. but whatever keep acting like Fred inherited a great spot and Fran inherited a dumpster fire so you can act like your mediocre coach is awesome.

Fran had coaching experience. Fred hadn't even coached a junior high team yet. Fran had the upper hand and he squandered it.

I don't think Fran is "Awesome". I meant Hoiberg was a more notable name. Even without the facility, Hilton > Carver.

I like the guy but I'm pretty steady with my criticism of him and I will be until they can get out of the opening weekend of the tourney and prove he can recruit at a high level. Will it happen? I don't know.

I don't think he'll ever be a second weekend tourney guy at Iowa. His recruiting/rotations/game management will always keep him as a bubble/middle of the pack B1G team. I think most Hawk fans are trying to be optimistic about him because they are so fearful if they let him go like they did Alford it could bring back the Lickliter years. I like him mostly because as long as Fred is here we'll always be better and we never have to worry about recruiting against him

Fran has yet to make the tournament.

No it wasn't. McDermott was coach for one season in the Sukup.

Greg got much better talent to ISU than Lick did to Iowa...but the results weren't drastically different. It's really loooking like a train wreck. I do think Creighton is primed to be a solid program and they don't need an elite coach to do it, but they need a good high major coach to win in the Big East. In basketball it should still be called power 6.
