My wife likes to blame Matt Thomas for everything, but I'm always bagging on Bryce Dejean-Jones. For the record, both are great contributors to the team, neither deserve any blame, and I'm glad they play for the cyclones. They have just become our unofficial fanatical punching bags.

Last year it was probably Deandre Kane for me at times, Korie Lucious, and Chris Allen before that.

Edit: I read the thread title as GOAT meanning person who gets undeserved blame... What do you intend for GOAT to mean?

You lose points in my book by turning pro early. Sure they are good for mostly for themselves which eliminates Fizer & Royce White, what dude was her for 1 season.

With history on his side. Hoiberg has to be the man. Especially when you add his coaching, no single person has been involved in more success.

I was here for Grayer, the end of Hornacek, Victor was a stud. Hoiberg is my guy though.

Horny had the best pro career but he was only a walk on... not sure how many games/points he has his first several seasons. Fred was the ball boy when i was here and we knew he could ball back in 7th grade.

So its Fred but damn was Tinsley fun to watch & win with. Remember dude never lost a game at Hilton, nobody else can say it but he only played 2 years.... So its Fred

You are awarded no points. Sharpen your focus - it doesn't make sense to factor in coaching, ball boy and professional experience for a poll on the greatest ISU BASKETBALL PLAYER of all time. If the poll was for "greatest member of the ISU basketball program of all time, inexplicably including ballboy duties and coaching experience," I'd give the nod to Fred.

The most skilled, most impactful player player in ISU history was Fizer. I don't know how people could argue that anybody other than Tinsley and possibly Grayer could match in terms of - again, what this poll is asking for: best ISU BASKETBALL PLAYER of all time. The best at playing basketball for ISU.

I also laugh when people detract for not staying for four years.

1. Jeff Grayer (All-time leading scorer)
2. Zaid Abdul-Aziz (career 22.3 ppg, 13.7 rpg)
3. Hercle "Poison" Ivy (career 22.2 ppg, 12.4 rpg, Can't believe you guys are leaving him off)
4. Fred Hoiberg (No need to explain)
5. Gary Thompson (First 1,000 point scorer)
6. Jeff Hornacek (NBA All-Star, all-time assist leader)
7. Marcus Fizer (One the most dominate players ISU history)
8. Jamaal Tinsley (Highlight reel on demand)
9. Barry Stevens (Co-founder of Hilton Magic)
10. Dedric Willoughby (Talk about an assassin from deep...)
11. Victor Alexander (23.4 ppg as a senior)
12. Melvin Ejim (This one was tough. Lots of guys you could put here but he gets the nod for now, Niang is gaining ground though)

This is in no particular order.

Another vote for a top 5 of
Grayer
Fizer
Hoiberg
Tinsley
Hornacek

Admittedly older guys being shorted. Also, he only played a year but Royce is clearly one of the most talented and productive players while he was here.

Statistically there are better candidates.
