Recruit Lists v2.0

When in his tenure has he had an open scholarship?

He put Bubu on scholarship to help out our GPA. You think Fred liked telling Amardi to get lost to bring on Kane? You think he likes to have McKay and Burton pay their own way? I think in an ideal world he'd have 10 eligible scholarship players, 2 scholarship players sitting out on the scout team and one scholarship ready to give for another player but that's just my opinion.

Do you think he liked telling SDW to "get lost" to bring in Burton?

Maybe. I just have never seen a scholarship open under his watch. You very well could be right.

You could be right too, just my opinion. I think the fact that Fred has 10 capable players this year but is only playing 8 might change things going forward. I think he does really want to give Custer and Edozie minutes but it just doesn't make sense. Go low risk/high reward players like the Greek who is also an extra body for practice but save a scholarship for players like Kane/McKay/Burton, etc

I think he would like to bank a scholly, too, but these high-quality transfers keep wanting to play for us, and you can't turn that away...

I doubt Fred told SDW to get lost. If he had wanted to stay, he could've. Fred just told him it was in his best interest to transfer to maximize his playing time. He wasn't going to get any this year, and we actually add depth to the position next year.

Just stop. The only way Fred banks a scholly is if there is zero players who can play or have high upside. Which isn't going to happen. There's always a project we can find if nothing else.

Yeah...my fault. So, is Burton on scholarship right now? Pretty sure he is, and if so, where did that scholarship come from?

SDW's scholarship is not available until next year. Counting his, we have 13 scholarship players, so no scholarship available this semester for Burton. We have three seniors, in BDJ, Hogue and Edozie, so Fred didn't need SDW to leave to open a scholarship for next year for Burton.

Nope, Burton (like McKay last) is paying his own way during the spring semester and will be on scholarship after that.
Scholarships are for the Fall and Spring. SDW's spring semester still counts against the yearly allotment.

As for the last open scholly I would expect it to be used on a high level transfer. There isn't a lot of playing time available as it is next year. May as well have the next Nader, McKay, Cooke, etc. practicing with the team and maturing but not worrying about game minutes.

ISU has four scholarships for next year. Two will go to Williams and Burton, another possibly to Diallo. The other one (or both if Diallo chooses elsewhere) will go to transfers

I don't see us taking anymore Blufords or even Greeks and not having scholarships for Armardi, Brooks, McKay, Burton, etc What late project recruit was worth it?

If you have a team that struggles with length, you go get a 7 footer to practice against. That's Giorgios, who also opens the door to other international players for Fred at ISU. Just because some guys don't see the court on game nights does not mean they have no impact on the team, IMO.
