Going off of the video games you could never beat thread - what are games that you HAVE beat and/or did you ever do it in unique ways to make more challenging? I have a few examples I remember:

1) Beat Legend of Zelda without a sword. You don't have to pick up the sword at the beginning. You gamble to get enough money to buy bombs, and eventually the bow and arrow. You can get all the way to Ganon, but can't actually beat him because the sword is required. A buddy and I did this during college, we took turns working on it between classes.

2) Beat Super Mario Bros with only one life.

3) Beat Super Mario Bros holding controller upside down.

4) Beat Final Fantasy with four white mages (takes FOREVER to build up experience points).

If considering games other than NES, when I bartended at Whiskey River I once rolled a 289 on Silver Strike. Nine strikes, 9, spare, and strike.

I beat Super Macho Man from Mike Tyson's Punch Out! in the first round once. I don't know if that is that big a deal, but I remember freaking out about it when I was 8. I also could beat the original Contra without the Konami code.

I never had a SNES so lately I've been playing and beating the games on my iphone with a SNES emulator. Does that count?

I did a no bonfire run through Dark Souls 2. It started as a no death, no bonfire run though...

I only beat the original Zelda in an emulator with save states. Anyone who beat Gannon's dungeon on the NES has my admiration. I probably could have done it but with my skill level it would have taken forever.

I can beat Contra without losing a life.

I can beat Battletoads without cheats or warps.

I have also beat Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, TMNT, and Punch Out without any cheats.

Halo with only melee and the pistol.

I finished the water temple on Ocarina of Time.

Donkey Kong Country only using Donkey Kong.

Last but not least for any MMO players, finished the Chains of Promethia story line of FFXI which was beyond hard on a game with no group finder.

I've done this with every COD game. Always is a challenge but extremely fun.

I went thru Super Mario Brothers twice in a row without dying or warping.

edit* I actually played it about a month ago after not having played it for 20+ years and beat it without dying. My friend and I would take turns seeing how far we could get playing with our eyes closed. He finished a level one time. I never pulled that one off.

Also finished Zelda's Ocarina of Time. I remember the water temple being a ***** to figure out, but I played the hell outta that game.

I always hated the shadow temple more than the water temple. Water temple was fun to figure out, the shadow temple you had to run around with that ******* mirror all the time.

I posted some of this in the other thread as well but here are mine again. Oh, and it should go without saying, but I never used a game genie for any of my games.

I've beat Ninja Gaiden. I've heard some people say on here they didn't have a problem with it, but Stage 6-2 haunted my dreams for days.

I've beat all the NES Mega Man games. I suppose individually no one game is significant, but I'm proud that I've beat (and own) all of them.

I've beaten Batman. One of the first games I got for the NES when I was about 7 years old, but I think it took me about 3 years before I beat it.

Castle Crashers on hard mode. If you've played it, you know beating it on normal isn't hard. But while the first few levels on hard mode aren't too bad, once you get to the volcano it gets crazy. Me and a buddy had to max out our levels and barley beat the final boss.

Finally, I've beat Blaster Master. One of my personal favorite NES games of all time. If you haven't played it I recommend giving it a look. I could never beat it when I was a kid. Then about 5 years ago I got sick for about a week and the tv in the bedroom was old and only had the NES hooked up to it. It took about 2-3 days of playing it almost non-stop whenever I was awake, but I finally toppled it.

Lol, that's an accomplishment but it only counts as a major accomplishment if you never had to backtrack. I've beaten that game 10+ times in my life and every time I get to the last locked door I never have the key for it.

I'll admit there was some back tracking involved the first couple times. Now days I can clear it straight through. I was only 10ish years old when that came out so I stand by it as a gaming accomplishment!

I was first dude in my home town to discover the baseline shot on Double Dribble that would go in every time if timed correctly. (Many would argue against this, but it is indeed true). I dominated for only a very short time as everyone caught on rather quickly (obviously) and it became a game of each team shooting the exact same shot back & forth.

As stated in other thread, beat Punch-Out in 1987 or 1988 and was minor celebrity for my 15 minutes. Also remember beating Indiana Jones, ET (horrible game, but just had to finish it) & Pitfall II on Atari 2600. Remember winning/beating Metal Gear and the 1st Mega Man on NES with a friend, too, but I don't recall if MG was actually that difficult or not (been too long! MM was difficult though, I do remember that). Been really fun reading the thread & reminiscing about these games. I'm pretty sure I defeated a TMNT game on NES, but I am not very sure on that one.

You sir have won this thread.

Defeated a buddy of mine in college on Madden for the Playstation 1. I know that doesn't sound impressive, but he was using his hands to work the controller and I played with my feet.

If we are sticking to NES:

Beat all 3 Mario games without using warps.

Beat both Zelda 1 and Zelda 2.

Beat Contra without the code.

Beat the first 3 Mega Man games. Eventually need to go back and finish up the rest.
