Man, apparently giving someone your "word" these days means nothing... things are getting worse and worse in college football recruiting every year. They really should just let / make recruits sign immediately instead of during a "signing period" and then hold them accountable to said contract.

I'm all for letting a player immediately transfer if a coach leaves w/o having to sit out. If the coach can leave and "play immediately", so can the player in my opinion.
I imagine it's not hard to recruit against us these days. "Hey, do you really want to play for a team who has one 5 games in two years, in Iowa, whose coach is about to get fired?"
I want to be mad, but it's really hard to blame a kid who committed before this dumpster fire of a season for changing his mind.
CPR can look at the bright side. Plenty of time left to ask Hyvee to save boxes for him to help with moving next year.
you know, I don't think anyone really thinks that the players are to be blamed for changing their minds. But, as fans, it is OK to have an opinion that an early signing day would be good for a team like Iowa State. We identify a lot of talent and it sucks that it gets poached.
And some of you seem to be taking a lot of joy out of all of this. That's annoying. I wish that everyone who has given up on Iowa State football and Rhoads would stay the hell away until your ultimate wish comes true and he's gone. Based on the experts on here, it shouldn't be long! If you keep saying that we suck, it doesn't make us suck any less. In fact, it probably just makes you more miserable.
These kids can do whatever they want but I'm really coming around to not blaming coaches for telling guys they don't have room anymore. That's what stuff like this will come to. It has to. I would like to know how many kids switch verbals at some point. I bet it's over 25%. Spare me the "coaches are adults" argument too.
There simply needs to a an early signing day. Maybe two of them. One in August and on in December. Tie both ends up. "Commitments" are a joke. They tie a coaching stuff up and there's no tie up for the kid. Again, the kids can do whatever, but it makes it really hard on the mid and lower tier schools.

I agree with this. It's a screwed up system. Let the kids have some responsibility. If you want to wait around for the late signing day, fine, but you might not have a spot. In that case, you might get a kid to sign on an early signing day.
It's all in the game.
The system is screwed up. I'm not complaining about this specific scenario, it's the inefficiency in the system of recruiting.
I'm not saying Ozigbo is THE problem, far from it actually. I'm just saying overall something should be done (like letting recruits sign year round). At this point, they are just playing the game like all the other players / coaches are. I just think the rules of this "recruiting game" should be changed.
I mean really, when a player knows where he wants to go to play, let him sign regardless of the month. If he wants to sign during the season, then so be it.
