Would blackskins or yellowskins be ok too?
How dumb is it to have a team with this name in 2014?
I know Redskins is a little different but as far as college sport goes they should either allow Native American mascots or disallow them. Allowing Seminoles and Fighting Illini but disallowing Fighting Sioux is a little silly. You can find people who are offended and people who are not offended in practically every situation. I know that the Seminole powers that be have said it is okay, but there are certainly others who feel differently. Why are they ignored? Sioux is such a broad group that there is no one entity that speaks for them.
Very dumb.
Ok, so the Indians find it offensive, but the US government says it's not? Ok. I'm glad a bunch of rich old white guys get final say in this.Sounds about right.
If I were Snyder, I'd gladly change the name. Talk about a marketing boon. Merchandise sales would be through the roof while all the Redskins fans replace all their gear.
If there's a subset of Native Americans who say they are offended by it I don't really understand how a group of primarily white dudes can overrule that.
I think that accurately describes Cowboy's fans, I'll allow it.Cowboys was actually a pejorative term for drovers. It was meant to suggest that the drovers were getting friendly with their herd.
