I don't think they've done enough to be ranked, but what about you? They did beat a ranked team on the road, and several teams in the 15-25 range lost this week (WVU, Arkansas, MSU, Maryland, Illinois), as did many teams that were close to being ranked (UConn...to Yale, ouch...Creighton, Providence, Florida).

Iowa might eke in, but if they do, it'll mostly be because other teams ahead of them didn't perform well. Also, UNI is sure to be ranked come Monday if they take care of George Mason, which might give Iowa the claim to best state for basketball at the moment if Iowa can also get ranked (Kentucky's probs #1 with UK and Louisville in the Top 5).

Also, it's looking like OSU could pop into the rankings, too, which would mean the Big 12 will have had seven teams (SEVEN) ranked at some point already. Baylor could make it too at some point. Hands down the best basketball conference in the country.

Last week there were 43 teams ranked or getting votes and Iowa wasn't one of them. Assuming they are just on the outside of getting votes at 44, they've have to leap frog 19 teams to get to 25. I know some people lost in there, but I don't think it's likely. That win earned them some votes though. I do agree that UNI is gonna break into the top 25 given the shake ups from some of the teams that lost this week.

It'll be pretty cool if UNI keeps their ranking for the Big 4 classic, could shape up to be a pretty solid day of basketball at the Well. Kinda wish I would have picked up some tickets now.

As thing stand now, no, but I'll bet that UNI will be. Out of the bottom 5 teams in this weeks poll(Iowa State, Maryland, Oklahoma, Butler, Illinois, and Utah) only Maryland and Illinois lost. Maryland will probably stick around at number 25 or so since their loss was to Virgina who was number 7. Illinois lost to Miami, who was ranked as well, but is number 24 and normally losses when ranked 24 or 25 end up with you falling out of the polls the next week. I think UNI will replace Illinois since UNI was "number 26" in the polls. If Maryland falls out then it's either Iowa or Oklahoma State that will move into their place. My guess is that Maryland stays in the polls at either 24 or 25 though.

I think UNI may very well be a top 20-40 team, but I'm really surprised they're likely to be ranked after just 7 wins without really beating any great teams.

I think Iowa is likely just as good with a good road win, a neutral loss to a really good team and a neutral loss to a team a little better than Iowa but also near top 25. At least I have a better picture of where Iowa is with the solid teams they have played.

Has Oklahoma State beaten anybody decent?

KenPom loves Oklahoma State's style of play and victory quality so far :-/

Reality is they have Maryland and Mizzou just before B12 but total cakewalk until then.

That's the major obstacle at this point. If Iowa had hung around 30-ish range, the win at UNC might be able to propel the team close to the line.

Basing this on AP poll, Iowa could get more votes than Wyoming (although SMU will get back into the mix), Nebraska, Old Dominion, Ole Miss, possibly UConn, Creighton and TCU. If UNC is valued as a true No. 12, that could be a big boost.

Iowa's resume is better than its "ranking profile" at this point. Losses are to (now-6th) Texas (neutral) and (now-31st) Syracuse (neutral).

Note: Those examples are not the entire picture, but it's a general summary of how difficult it would be for a team to climb 20 or so spots in one week, even with a signature road win.

No way. If they knock off UNI and/or ISU, sure. But not after one good win.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were. They were overvalued pretty much the entire season last year.

Bad, part of the cakewalk.

Not yet, IMO. As tm said, if they beat UNI and Iowa State, they will crack the polls.

EDIT: Unless they figure out how to put the ball in the hole, in other ways beside the FT line (they have been very good there), they will drop both of those games, and the tailspin will begin).

Iowa will not be ranked. I do think they are one of the top 25 teams in the country. But it's still early in the season and the weight of where teams were in the preseason rankings is going to contribute to Iowa being under-ranked.

The Big Ten currently has six teams ranked while the big 12 has five. The big 10 just won the ACC challenge, against one of the premier conferences in college basketball. And finally, Iowa State lost to Maryland, a middle of the road big 10 team... I don't think best conference 'hands down' should be thrown around this early in the year.

only 42% of the B1G is ranked, 50% of the Big 12 is ranked.

Nebraska and Iowa either have or will be ranked sometime throughout the season so those statistics will vary. The big 12 is a good conference, I was speaking more to the way the OP was emphatic about the big 12 being 'hands down' the best conference. It's too early; but I think it's between the Big Ten big 12 and ACC
