Per ESPN 1 - 49 - 2

One of the ties is the 23-23 game when ISU was #17 and Nebraska #3 in Ames in 1972, where I believe ISU missed the PAT at the end of regulation that would have won the game (how very ISU of us, btw).

What's the other one?

And how many other perennially bad programs played the same number of top 5 games.

The usual suspects would be ISU, Vandy, KU, Northwestern, Indiana, Washington State, probably missing a few. Miss St is good now but they've been a whipping boy for long periods. Depends on the time frame, if you'er going recently Big Ten teams don't play enough top teams, if you're going historically they do. ACC teams probably never played that high a % of top 5 teams.

The Big X+VI, SEC and Pac X+II all have had schedules for a long time where it was possible to miss the top teams (we did too during the big XII, but now we seem to hit a couple top 5/year).

I kind of suspect that there are few teams of our caliber who have played that many top 5 games.

Yeah but can you name the 49?!
