This isn't meant as a discussion about where Iowa State is currently at (I think that's fairly obvious right now) but rather where you, as a fan, would pick the program to be given 3 choices:

1. TCU-like. Good at football with shots at the playoff every so often. God awful at basketball.
2. Kansas-like. Awful at football but a perennial power in basketball.
3. Maryland or Illinois-like. Mediocre in both with an occasional run in either or.

I'm torn. I like #3 because I enjoy both sports but it would be nice to have a chance at a national title at something.

Depends solely on if I factor money into the selection process for me. If I include it, TCU no doubt. If I dont, Kansas without question. Basketball is much more fun for me.

#2. I'd get to see a lot more winning games with BB.

Given the choice I'd rather be a football powerhouse. Football is still the king of college athletics and my preferred sport if we weren't terrible.

Kansas basketball is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> TCU football. I would choose that option. National Titles, winning the Big 12 basically every year... easy choice.

Football= money in the US. If you are good at football, everything else becomes easier. Recruiting, Fundraising, etc. Even in the other sports. Id pick the TCU route.

Would anybody have heard of Boise State before they were good at Football for a few years in the early 2000's? Or North Dakota State? Now everybody in the country knows of these two schools.

Basketball just doesn't do that as much sadly. There are always Cinderella teams but because of that, no one remembers them. I know a Cinderella team has done well the past few years but I can't remember exactly which team it was.

I just want us to be known for being good at something, and since football is king, I'll say 1.

So then why does the SEC (and the other teams you've listed) mostly suck at basketball?
