Emerald Coast Classic in 2015

I completely agree with you! I am very surprised. You expect schools like Auburn, Mississippi State, or Georgia for that matter accepting an invite to this dinky tournament. We are "big time" now!

This tourney is only a few years old, its a solid tourney if you ask me. I think too many ISU fans are underselling this field.

or maybe "overselling" how big time we are, one sweet 16 appearance does not make you big time...I do believe we could be there soon with Fred at the helm

With a field of Virginia Tech,Illinois, and UAB you could have fooled me.

and Iowa State...Illinois is always a bubble team, I'd expect VT to be much improved with Buzz Williams in charge. His Marquette teams were always one of the most physical teams in the country.

exactly, i've heard people b**ch about KSU getting into Maui, well theyve made tournament 6 out of last 7 and made the elite 8 in 2010.

as we make more tournaments and hopefully go further, the offers will come. Posted this in an earlier post but I really dont understand how Iowa gets into better preseason tournaments than ISU

The faction of fans that complain about not playing in the elite nonconference tourneys might be the most annoying of any.

I like having a tourney with decent teams that we can beat. These teams are not garbage. Also i think some forget we are in the big 12 and will have plenty of quality games

I've lived in both states, on the Atlantic coast and near Puget sound. In one region, you are surrounded by green, emerald green...thick rainforests on the Peninsula going down to the edge of the cliffs above the beaches. In the other region, not so much. Just sayin'

The Emerald Coast is on the Gulf stretching from Pensacola to Panama Beach, not the Atlantic coast. If you haven't been there don't knock it, some of the most beautiful white sandy beaches in the world. See photo from this October. Thinking about booking my place now...

I want an excuse to go to Florida, but I'm just not sure Florida in late November does it for me. Average high 67, average low 43 for this area during that time. Splurging on a Florida trip would be pretty disappointing if it ends up chilly on the beach.

The "emerald" refers to the beautiful ocean...not the foliage. The beaches are fantastic...some of the best in the world. It could be colder than most want at the beach but if you are coming from Iowa it will be significantly warmer. The Destin area is fantastic. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity...especially if you have never visited this area.

Count me as one of the few that are excited. Might plan a little vacation time around it. Destin/niceville is a great area, not crazy expensive, and all around an awesome time.

There are dozens of hotels on the beach.
Recommendations?
I'm seriously considering this.

edit: hotel in Destin on the beach.

not the best tourney basketball-wise, but there probably isn't a better match than cyclone fans and the redneck riviera.

My suggestion is to use VRBO.com and get a condo instead. It is off-season, so the rates are reasonable and you will be able to find a nice condo for the price of a hotel room.

I'm hoping we can play ourselves into the de facto First Estate round-robin that goes on (maybe not a complete one, but at least lots of games in the sequence) amid teams like Arizona, Louisville, UK, KU, Michigan St., UNC, Duke, Wisconsin, Indiana, and the like after this year. Having one or two of those games at tournaments, neutral sites, or home-and-home would be really awesome (add that in with home-and-home every year with KU, UT, OU, etc. anyways and we've quickly one of the best schedules in the nation, never mind the tough match-up we are naturally going Iowa every year as it is anyways).
