Harold Nichols open

You honestly think that all 10 starters are dinged up? This is embarassing. In that message KJ posted he noted how Alabama schedules McNeese State. Can someone tell me the last time we won a national title. If Penn State used this lame *** excuse maybe I buy it. We are NOT Penn State. We are NOT defending national champions. I thought the reason for no wrestle offs were they were using the first TWO tournaments to determine the starters? I was no happy when UNI pulled the same ***** at their open either. We need the competition and we need the wins! IMO embarassment all the way around.

Love all the arm chair quarterbacks that know more than the coaches.

You're right. KJ's track record of success certainly leaves him above being questioned. What was I thinking? All 10 starters are so "dinged up" that they can't compete in our own tournament after almost everybody traveled to Mason City a week ago. Not ONE starter healthy enough to compete...in our tournament...named in honor of a Cyclone legend. Seems legit.

So how did our back ups do?

I see Harrington got 3rd. It was said earlier that he was on the opposite side from Cox. Who beat him? Looked like some respectable finishes for the freshmen.

Since you obviously know more about the wrestling team, enlighten me on how you would do after basically starting over. If you know anything about wrestling, it's not quite as easy to reload after the basically the whole team leaves. Not saying he gets a free pass but not sure it fair to blast him for it either.

Did u guys not read what buf87 just posted. Said they were a little dinged up and wants them fresh to start the dual season. After this explanation, I'm OK with the decision. There is no need to push guys this early if they aren't completely healthy.

I dont think it was a fireable offense or anything. But I am very disappointed that none of our starters wrestled. There were multiple really good possible matches yesterday that we chickened out of. Plus it was the only chance to see our starters in Ames until January.

No excuses for absolutely ZERO of our starters to wrestle at the Harold Nichols. Out of ten stinking weights there had to have been a couple guys there weren't "dinged up".

We could do a dissertation on what the program has endured over the past few years. Athletes left and it set us back. No one could argue otherwise. I have been an ardent KJ supporter through most of his term. Whatever happened has happened and hes had enough recruiting cycles to call this his program. Hes done some good things and I appreciate it.

This is a completely separate issue. How do you not put ONE starter on the mat for this tournament? One! He's ducking something. If the Kaye Young is worthy of 90% of our lineup then the HN open is sure as hell worth putting a few first stringers out there. It's a slap in the face to the man that brought him to Ames.

If I had to hazard a guess I'd say they were smarting from what happened to Gadson with seeding at NCAAs last year and they didn't want him to face Cox more than once, win or lose. And they wanted to save that for the Scuffle. And holding everyone out was just cover for that.

I don't think it was the right call to hold out everyone. But that's my guess.

I actually thought pretty much the same thing. Still strongly disagree with it. Kyven's kryptonite is Schiller and this could have been a great spring board for his senior season. Instead its wasted home matches for him and every other starter.

I agree. I thought it was chicken **** and I'm kind of embarrassed. I also think KJ was ducking Cox so he sat his whole team. We could've had great matches with Walsh and Houdashelt plus many more. If you don't want Kyven to wrestle, fine, sit him. But the whole team? Cmon man! What has this once proud program become. I'm tired of KJ. What happened to they guy who's goal was to beat the best every year? Remember his rhetoric when he was hired? What happened to that guy? The guy we have right now is chicken ****.

Rest? It's November 8. I don't know what a good excuse would be but I hope that's not it.

He wants to tell us the program is improving but then he sits starters for one of the few home events where he could showcase the improvement. Makes no sense.

I think this is what I was getting at about rest. I can understand resting some guys you might think were a bit dinged, but it is really odd that none of the starters wrestled...in our own tournament.

I agree with you Judoka that's probably the case. KJ was thinking "oh no-we don't want you to face Cox just yet! Though you beat him last year!".

KJ and the team wasn't ducking anybody. KJ lives by his thought process and right or wrong he is okay with it. Will he do the same thing next year, maybe not. But I have talked with KJ plenty of times and KJ is doing what he thinks is best for his team, physically and mentally.

Considering how close the match atleast appeared to be with Waters-will Boston challenge Larson for the 125 spot or is he redshirting for sure? Buf? Judoka?

I've got no inside info but I think this is a year where you pull out all the stops. If Boston is more likely to score us points at NCAAs I wouldn't be at all surprised to see his redshirt pulled.

Doyle hasn't wrestled yet correct or am I missing something? I thought for sure he would have competed at both tournaments.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Larson will be good, but you cannot deny that Boston lost to the #3 guy by one point. Put the best option out there. We're solid at 165-197 not to mention Earl Hall and Meeks are capable of doing well. I would say why not and burn the RS. Even if that means throwing Rodriguez out there a time or two. It could mean a middle teens ranking to upwards of top ten you never know.
