Has he ever played one snap for ISU? In a previous thread people were saying that Sam was out on Saturday. If the game gets to a point where we are up 34-0 like last year, is there ANY chance that Joel will get a sliver of a shot to prove his worth and sub in for Rohach.

I remember hearing rumors back in Ankeny that he struggled in school somewhat, and I'm not sure if that's an issue here, too (Let's be honest, HS rumors aren't exactly the most accurate).

At the end of this year, I wouldn't blame him for wanting to transfer.

Maybe I'm being a homer, and just want to see him play, but I think he's got some talent.

From what I've heard, he's just having a hard time picking up the Mangino scheme. Talent is not his issue

Staff is supposedly VERY high on him. If he can pick up the scheme and the nuances of being a Big 12 QB, he could be special. Whether that means he gets snaps this weekend or not, I have no idea.

Talent won't be an issue with Lanning. Picking up the scheme and throwing accurately might be issues. He does have a pretty big arm though, which depending on the system can sometimes kind of offset any accuracy issues, IMO.

Mangino took a big QB (Kerry Meier) and converted him into a really good receiver. I wonder if there is any chance of that happening with Lanning.

I've always thought that he should have had his own formation/set of plays. Use him like the Bell-Dozer on short yardage and goal line. And put a FB and Syria in the backfield with him.

This. How many true freshmen really make an impact? Even Johnny Football redshirted.

Thank you! I don't want a redshirt freshman starting at qb, not even a soph. It would be great if we could get to the point where we have enough quality depth that type of thinking doesn't happen.

I think Joel could be a very good qb -he has all the tools. The upside is Sam will be our qb this year and next. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Joel is #2 next year.

The way things work around here, he might be #1 next year.

Hopefully Lanning is QB2 next year. Rohach QB3 if he's still here. And SBR needs to be the starter again.

I'd be a whole lot more worried about pass protection and run blocking, than I would about just who's starting at quarterback. Marcus Marriotta wouldn't be successful if he was spending all his time getting pounded.

b/c why? Rohach won 2 Big12 games, throwing for 300 yds + in both. How many has Sam won as a starter? Lanning hasn't even seen the field yet.

What does it matter if he started the KU game two years ago or not? He threw 4 TDs, ran for 1, and was the reason for the win.
