Because despite that record they aren't very good and they lose a lot of talent for next year. They are losing hope, have an OC they hate and have played just 3 teams in the 40-60 range and lost 2 of them and nobody in the top 40. The evidence is clear that they too are in the 40-60 range same as Iowa State. Difference is with our youth and Mangino we have a little hope. Sure the record is better and it would be more fun to be 5-2 but I get why they are frustrated.I still don't understand what the issues are with their program that haven't been there for the last 10 years. Here the hawks sit at 5-2 with 4 winnable games left. Who cares what the schedule is like? The delusion of being a playoff contender is on the fans and media for hyping it up. The program is no different than it has been. Wanting to run off the coach that gets you 7-8 wins on average and a mid-tier bowl game is just stupid. Every program has guys leave for all kinds of reasons.
The best part is that they're arguing about which qb sucks more. I have to side with Gonzo though.

Now I have not watched all of Iowa's games, and I have heard a lot of Iowa fans, including my brothers, whom are very knowledgeable FB fans, say that JRB is a much better QB than Rudock, but in the end, if he is so much better, why is his QB rating so bad? I mean those numbers do mean something, don't they? All I am saying is that if Beathard is way better than Rudock, which would not take a lot, then shouldn't he have a better rating based on his superior performances?
I've watched them all. I think he's easily the more accurate passer. They've both missed easy passes for sure. But CJB is more accurate, especially with the deep ball. In the one drive he was given against Ball St. he put the ball on the number in the end zone if our WR (can't remember one) hadn't bobbled it as he went out of bounds. On the big 3rd and long against Pitt he stood in until the last second and delivered a dart to Hamilton that gave us a huge first down. JR would have thrown it away by then. Against Purdue the back shoulder TD pass to KMM was right on the mark, along with the TD pass that hit Hillyer in the numbers that was dropped.
gotta love arguments where none of the stats back you up, but you just go ahead anyway because you just wish it to be so.
Rudock has issues, being accurate generally isn't one of them. His career compl % is about 10% higher than Cj's is this year (and this year alone he's about 13% higher)
You act like Jake never gets balls dropped.
Rudock had a perfectly thrown deep ball picked off because Powell handed it to the other team. CJB handed a GOLDEN chance (i.e. Sam Richardson vs Kansas) to prove he was easily the best option and messed it up. Simple as that
His completion % and passer ratings are better because he never throws the ball downfield. So he checks down and completes more 3-yard passes on 3rd and 7. Awesome.

He played better against Pitt and Purdue than JR played in 4 of his 6 starts this season. Again, it makes no difference, KF is starting JR no matter what.
they actually don't lose that much. They lose some key players for sure, but they return a ton of starters on both sides of the ball.
Beathard throws the ball downfield but only has one TD all season and played a full game against Purdue
Kyle Orton has a better QB rating than Andrew Luck. Who would you rather have as your starting QB?
JR dug us into a major hole against Pitt, CJB dug us out and got us the win. CJB got us a conference win on the road in his first start ever, JR played like absolute crap on the road in another conference game against another mediocre team. Not saying that stat doesn't matter, but if that's what you're banking on, you're not really looking at the game and what's going on.
So you think JR is the better QB?
Let's look at CJB vs Purdue and what he did. What 4 games was Rudock worse in than that performance?
ISU, Ball St., Pitt, Maryland.
You'll look at the Ball St. stats and think JR's performance there was better. But it was against Ball St., at home, and JR was able to lead us to 3 points in the first 55 minutes of that game.
ISU, obviously, our offense was pathetic, as was Rudock as his stats show. You'll appreciate that.
Pitt, obviously, CJB's numbers in that game were clearly better.
Maryland, again, JR went one stretch completing something like 7 out of 24 and played like absolute crap. Stats might show his numbers were better, but that's because we were coming from way behind. Fact is we lost to them, and we won against Purdue. CJB's numbers would have been bigger if we weren't milking clock late in the game.
I thought someone said you lose 9 offensive starters....but now that I type that I remember that it was you have 9 offensive upperclassman. My bad. Honest question as you seem to make level headed assessments, with the losses and no real hope at skill positions does Iowa have a better record next year? Or considering this year's schedule do they have a better team?
Maryland > Purdue. If CJB was "milking the clock late" how did he throw 20 incompletions against PURDUE? Oh yeah, he wasn't good that game.
I've said the whole time I think he is better than JR but if you can only put up 24 pts against Purdue and put up those numbers I don't get how you can say that was a "solid" performance. He was GIFTED an opportunity against a terrible team and didn't capitalize. Combine that with a stubborn coach that doesn't like him and he really kind of screwed himself
