Derrick Willies leaving Iowa

I still don't understand what the issues are with their program that haven't been there for the last 10 years. Here the hawks sit at 5-2 with 4 winnable games left. Who cares what the schedule is like? The delusion of being a playoff contender is on the fans and media for hyping it up. The program is no different than it has been. Wanting to run off the coach that gets you 7-8 wins on average and a mid-tier bowl game is just stupid. Every program has guys leave for all kinds of reasons.

In his radio show last night, Hlas said Iowa hasn't been in the top 25 in the last four years. "They are basically a .500 team"....

The same CR radio station brought the Top 25 rating drought up with Gary D. 'the Voice of the Hawkeyes'. His first reaction was "Where did you get that from?" -- as in that can't be true. After the facts were confirmed, his next reaction was that he was "SHOCKED!"
The most amusing part was with him finishing by saying "It's because there are so many more good teams now- like Miss., Miss. St., Marshall and TCU."

I don't the think 'the voice' could ever admit that maybe, just maybe, the Hawks have not kept pace and just don't deserve to be rated.

Um, TCU has been good for 10-15 year and almost constantly ranked Dolph (you moron).

Nothing better than the little sisters of the poor comment that tOSU president made about TCU, then they beat a B1G team in the Rose Bowl. lulz

That's the kind of crap that makes me LOL at hawk fans. You can't actually admit that your team isn't the best in the world. That's why they freak out over a loss and think KF has lost the team because they aren't undefeated.

I know hawk fans who basically believe they've never lost a game, they've just had games stolen from them.

KF blew the ISU game by calling a timeout. It had nothing to do with their defense letting ISU march down the field. Or the targeting call was BS, when it was confirmed by Big10 officials and Iowa got the benefit of other calls in the game. You just got beat and your team isn't that good. They're lucky to be in the B1G and play Purdue and Illinois

Not under the delusion that we would have contended for a playoff spot or have ever been a national power. But going four years without sniffing the top 25 isn't acceptable. Iowa can be and should be better than that, recent history proves it.

Willies leaving, CJB making the comments he made, Tevaun Smith saying what he said. There have to be serious issues going on behind the scenes with the program right now. Things aren't business as usual. I don't know if it's the GD experiment and how our O is now even more limp than it was under KOK, and whether that's a factor with players feeling as though they've been mislead by coaches. I do think the level of our talent has taken a pretty significant dip from where it's been, and that has a direct connection to our coaches.

I don't know. Ever since The Catch, this seems to have become the norm.

Safety has always been KF's thing. He coaches afraid. Rudock is the safe play. CJ is much more willing to take chances downfield and making tougher passes that JR isn't willing to try. KF likes that.

Agree 100%, the only thing CJ has done is not step up when he gets his chances outside the Pitt game. Purdue is a game where you should light it up as a QB, I know he also went in another game and didn't do much. Hard for KF to keep you on the bench if you put points on the scoreboard

CJB could have thrown for 500 yards against Purdue and it wouldn't have changed anything. Rudock still would have started the next game. No doubt.

The hiring of Greg Davis should have been proof to most Hawk fans that Kirk would never go outside his comfort zone, ever. If I were a Hawk fan I would want a new OC immediately. I doubt you guys get it.

You are right. KF immediately went with the "You don't lose your spot because of injury" response. He just can't force himself to give up on the upperclassman.

Haha you're probably right. Is KF due for another extension anytime soon?

I think fans heard "Texas" and "offensive coordinator" and "O'Keefe is gone" and went all Tommy Boy in the diner with their precious new sale. I admittedly did a little bit too. It was something new. But you're spot on, GD was in the circle of trust and a good 'yes' man.

The GD hire was only slightly better than the Messingham promotion. Ugh.

KF would buy himself multiple years of good will by hiring a younger and more exciting offensive coordinator. Doubt he does that though. If he actually does fire GD I see him going for another conservative who will run what KF wants to run.

Philosophy comes from the top down. Gus Malzhan could be your OC, and it wouldn't be different.

Kirk let Norm Parker do what he wanted, because they were similar in their mindset. But the offensive side of the ball has seen him take guys like kok who threw the ball all over the field in a past life and run the boring pro style offense you see today.

Plus he knows he is absolutely 100% bulletproof. I think he loves the complaining about the qb and offensive play because he knows it's going to turn out fine.

Unless Iowa catches lightning in bottle again with another HF/BS/BA coaching trio, the glory days for Iowa are gone forever.
Kirk and co. will, on average, always be at the .500 level.

Except for the fact they play in the Big Ten, so it is reasonable to assume they can scrape up 7 or 8 win seasons periodically.

Some of you must have a pretty damn high view of the iowa football program if you think kirk ferentz is their weak link
