Not usually much action in the NFL, but might as well make a thread about trades and speculation on how they'll pan out.

Big one of course is Mark Barron getting traded to the Rams. He's still a really young guy. I get that he wasn't progressing in Lovie Smith's system as fast as they wanted, but damn, I think the Rams got a steal for only a couple late round picks.

Oakland could use him but the last thing they need is a player who will be done with football in the next few years. They need to develop younger players. Trading draft picks for near-past their prime guys isn't a good idea.

I've love to see Manziel to the Jets. It would fit Rex Ryans system perfectly.

Geno Smith rode the coat tails of Tavon Austin's playmaking and thought he was the absolute ****. Anyone who's watched Geno play knew he wasn't a true starting NFL quarterback. Unfortunately his numbers were skewed because Austin was on his college team.

not just Austin, either. Stedman Bailey was on that WVU team as well, and we was a pretty damn good college player in his own right.

As far as Manziel goes, I doubt any team would pay what the Browns would ask for him. ...although you did say the Jets, didn't you. Hmm, I might have to rethink that.

It's interesting to speculate about next year's draft, which should be full of QB's with first round grades. Are there that many teams out there that will be willing to take a QB in the first round? Jets for sure. Titans? Bucs? Rams? Houston? Who else?

I hate the Jets, but the last thing they need is a scrambling QB who they will need to develop into a real NFL starter. Johnny Football did great things in college but you can't just let in fly in the NFL.

As all ISU fans know, Geno Smith is a real turd. I was pretty confident that he would be a dud in the NFL knowing what an awesome character guy he is.

Possibly the Cowboys if they happen to fall apart at the end of the season like they're known to do, with Romo getting older. Then again, they passed on Manziel.

That being said, Oakland and Jacksonville are going to get top 5 picks. Do they try and trade their rookie QB's for brand new, more talented rookie QB's and more draft picks with what they get back in the trade?

You can be a turd in NY in the crowd, but you better perform on the field.

Who? Mariotta and who else? I'm not handing the keys to Winston. Not a chance in hell I take him before about the 3rd round. He's a mess and I don't think he will make it. People won't buy his **** in the NFL. I suppose maybe Petty but outside of that there's not a lot there. Starting caliber QBs are a rare commodity these days with the changes in college offensive systems. The NFL will either have to move to systems that utilize the current college QB skillset or live with lesser QB play from guys like Orton. You will have a Luck in there every once and awhile but more often you will get an RG3.

V-Jax was thought to be on the block but apparently the Bucs were asking too much (they wanted a 2nd round pick)

Some team will reach on the next Christian Ponder way earlier than they should.

Not a smart move to hand the keys to Winston, but talent wise, he's a top 5 gift. Much better than Manziel.

That being said, here's who else walterfootball.com predicts in the top three rounds:

Marcus Marriota - Oregon - Top 10
Jamies Winston - FSU - Top 10
Connor Cook - MSU - 1-2
Brett Hundley - UCLA - 1-3 (IMO, RG3 pt. 2 but so far healthier)
Sean Mannion - OSU - 1-3
Garret Grayson - CSU - 2-4
Dak Prescot - MSU - 3-4
Kevin Hogan - Stan - 3-5

Petty and Wallace are predicted 4-6. Wallace will never make it because he falls apart when he gets rattled, and thats all defenses will do to him.

Established guys rarely ever merit 2nd round or better picks anymore. There's just too much wear and tear on current players and no one wants to spend a 2nd rounder on someone who could be out of the league in a few years.

IMO, it would be smarter for Winston to sit out a year, prove he can behave during the football offseason and not play baseball, work on his image, and then go out the next year, where he is a sure top pick.

That's kind of my point. I mean you have a guy in Marriota who I think is a fantastic college QB and player. I'm not certain he's a top 10 guy unless you use him right. Winston is probably the best talent from a QB standpoint but the complete lack of self awareness and IMO, intelligence isn't letting me take him. Give me a solid DE or really any other need over him in the first round at least. Then you have Connor Cook. Conner effing Cook?
