1. There is no speculation. He's a natural PG. He can shoot it like a "SG".
2. He's added at least 15 pounds of "good" weight since his last HS game.
3. I'd put money down that he's stronger than Morris.
4. He will do fine as his backup.
BTW, I live 15 minutes from his high school. I've seen him play in person a number of times.
One more thing, you don't have Travis Ford, Lon Kruger, and Frank Martin, all terrific guard recruiters, knocking on your door unless you're pretty damn good.

Well, that is not too far off from what most would define as a pg.
My expectations for Custer are far from high, but this sounds like a propagation of what has been on the KSU and KU forums from time-to-time. This could be completely factual, or it could be a combination of KU's extremely high standard and KSU minimizing a Kansas kid going elsewhere.
I will be interested to see how he defends bigger guards and if he can finish. I have my doubts, but some guys just get it done.

I don't know why everyone is jumping all over johnnydoughnuts about this one. Backups (IMO) at SG (Naz, Thomas) and F (Nader, come conference) are more proven than Custer. The only real backup PG on the roster is a freshman. Freshman often struggle to adjust. I think Custer will do just fine as the backup PG, but we just don't know. Thomas struggled last year and he was more heralded than Morris or Custer.
Morris is going to play 35 mpg, I'm not concerned about a 4* top 100 recruit filling in behind him

Maybe it's just me but I thought Monte was more of a sure thing.
Clay will do well from the get-go no matter what role he's asked to fill.
Nahh, Thomas was ranked higher and expected by most to start when he got here (which he did). Morris was a very pleasant surprise.
I think people are going to be surprised by just how good Monte is this year. He can pass and shoot, excellent handle, and he really has become quite a defender - I credit a lot of our win against KU in the Big12 tourny to his defense on Thaarp. Long NBA career in future for this kid, in this amateur scouts opinion.
As far as his backup, I am looking less to Custer, and more to Naz, Georges, and maybe BDJ or Matt T. I just don't see Custer playing a ton, less than Monte did early last year, and not gaining minutes later in season like Monte last year.
I would be worried if Monte got seriously injured, as opposed to foul trouble or the 5-8 mpg he is out. Then I think you'd see Naz, or maybe Georges doing the Royce inverted-offense thing consistently.

The last few posts are incredibly ignorant. Custer won't need to play a big role, and we are better in the long run if he doesn't have to, but he will be just fine this year if the need arises. Kid is tough as nails.
Hypothetical situation: Entire team is eligible, 1st big game, ignore experience gained this season. We're headed to OT, who is the last guy you want fouled out? To me, that's clearly Niang or Morris.
Too early to tell, Morris was really never in foul trouble last year so I'm not too concerned I guess. Niang would be clear #1
