Record for past coaches

I find it quite interesting everyone wanting PR's head lack of performance. Seems like everyone thinks McCarney walked on water, yet his overall record was only 56 W - 85 L and even worse in the Big 12. In fact the only coach to have a winning record at Iowa State since 1920 was Earle Bruce at 36 W - 32 L.

So I would conclude changing coaches, while it might seem like a good idea, won't solve the win loss problem. It's something much much deeper. Maybe money, maybe ethics? I don't know, but there seems to be a pattern of success and lack of success, not just with ISU, but many schools. We need to find the answer to that and correct it before we go looking for a new coach.

We need more $$$ directed at FB to overcome our inconsistencies

and yes, Earle Bruce the only coach to leave ISU with a winning record. This has been mentioned 1000x over the years

Since beating Baylor in 2012, ISU is 5-17. We have been with CPR only players now for most of that.

I don't know what qualified Rhoads' to be hired as our head coach, because his resume isn't very impressive, but he has done a pretty decent job thus far. I think he has two great coordinators right now and the future looks pretty decent. Keep in mind that we pretty much need to keep our staff in tact for about 5 years before any chance of a true break out year. That almost never happens, so I'm going to continue to believe we won't be very good until it does.

I can't tell if you think that's all we have to do to fix the problem or if you are trying to be funny.
yes, hiring a good coach would fix the problem

Sure would have been interesting what would have happened had Pollard offered Jim Harbaugh the job.

I've always wondered about that. He would have had four years in the old Big 12 to get things going which wouldn't have hurt. Surely he would have bolted after a couple bowl seasons, but he would have won here.

If we kept everything heading in the right direction, kept Mangino and Wally for a decade (yes, a decade) we could realistically expect to compete for a conference title 1 out of those 10 years. I'd say 8 of those years we could expect a bowl game, and a high bowl game 3 or 4 times. Something like

3-9
6-6
8-4

6-6
9-3
11-1
6-6
9-3
5-7
6-6

As soon as you have a major staff shake up at a place like Iowa State: re-start at year 1

Many can't seem to grasp that. They just want to point to his overall record here at ISU. Rhoads is very close to that 5-19 record that we like to rip Chizik for. He is doing that after what we thought was a program in much better shape coming out of the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Chizik took over the disaster after 2006.

Had he bolted we still might have had some pretty good football seasons with hopefully a predecessor like Coach Shaw.

You need more proof for that, but it could be a nice idea except for 2 things:
1. If a head coach is getting it done, it's in year 5 or sooner.
2. Ten years from now, Wally is around 82. I don't think we should count on him staying that long.

Paul Rhoads has a better first 5 year win % than Frank Beamer did at Virginia Tech
