Cory Johnson to transfer

Wow. I've refused to be worried or wonder about players staying or leaving. I've been staying away from the sky is falling. But another player leaving is really making me second guess myself.

I'm amazed at how often kids are jumping ship in college sports because they aren't getting PT. It would be interesting to see what percentage of scholarship athletes who sign as a freshman end up transferring.

Good luck, Cory. We'll miss the hustle.

I can't blame a kid for wanting more PT. Some of these kids are in college because they have a talent on the field/court and want to showcase that. They can't do that riding the bench or being on the scout team.

On the other hand, I give major props to kids who stick it out with minimal PT, knowing that their dirty work in practice is the lowest building block to success--but perhaps the most important.

Interesting that this is already triggering "sky is falling" reactions.

Good luck to Cory. I hope he finds somewhere that he can play regularly.

He is a post player in a 3/4 man body. Not sure if the Big12 is a good fit. Problem is now is that we are EXTREMELY Low on post players now.
Good luck to him though

Don't really care that we lose him just sucks another player wants to leave! That does not look good!

Don't be surprised if he's not the last. And no, I haven't heard anything about Brackins.

I agree with you guys that he was a 'hustle' and "effort' guy and probably lacked athleticism to play. Wasn't he a Coach Morgan recruit? I just wonder what Coach Morgan saw in him and how he would have fit in his scheme. It doesn't seem like he would have play much in Coach Morgan's system either.

Either way, I think everyone would agree he's a good kid, good luck to him and hope he finds what he's looking for!

Sad to see him go, but I don't blame him. I just don't think McDermott's system was ever a good fit for him. I predict he will go somewhere that is a much better fit and be very successful.

Cory is a top 10 scorer in Minnesota hsbb history, and was ranked about where Diante was on the Rivals 150. He was also recruited by Marquette, Minnesota, Georgetown, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin. He was seen as a legit scorer, but didn't quite develop the way a lot of people wanted.

Cory is one of the "good guys" out there. Wish him nothing but good luck and success.

Ok he may have been looked at by these teams but he only received offers from us, Iowa, Minnesota and Fla State. I think a lot of the other coaches realized he would be a role player and didn't give him the offer. On the other hand, best of luck to you Cory.
