Would he go back? Their football program has been in peril since he left, I read an article today about them being ready to can Weis. With a few years of separation, would KU take him back? I know their fans would, but would the administration take him back?

I know its early in the season, but I feel the same way about Mangino as I did having Sadler come in. Its only a matter of time before he leaves, I just hope in this case we get at least the two years of his contract.

KU wouldn't take him back, Mangino wouldn't take KU back. /thread

They wouldn't entertain the idea as they know what the answer would be.

Has there ever been a high-profile coach return to a school that fired them like that? It would be pretty unprecedented, and really there is no guarantee that he'd capture lightning in a bottle there twice.

The closest I can think of is Petrino returning to Louisville. UL did not fire Petrino, as he left to coach the Falcons (which was really just a ploy to get out of his UL contract), but it was an entirely ****ed up situation.

I also think they still have the same AD that had an issue with Mangino? If that is the case, I think that AD might be out the door when Weis gets canned, but not necessarily (since they are really a BBall school).

Ku actually has some rehire history, Don Fambrough, a legendary Jayhawk figure for his hate of all things Missouri: "K-State is our rival ... Missouri is our enemy!" But, as stated earlier here, I frankly doubt Mangino would return to Lawrence. He'd rather fan another Quantrill-like burning than put out the fire.

Billy Martin and the Yankees is the only one that comes to mind.

I believe it is part of the Mangenius' contract to not have anyone step in, down in Lawerence this fall when he is engineering and epic beatdown and obviously running up the score on them. I am being serious when I believe the final will be 52-0 or something like that, and if it is I bet we are still throwing deep downfield until the final gun.

I am also praying that Mangino falls in love with Ames and is content helping engineer the launching of our program into the stratosphere until retirement.

Ok I know he hasn't accomplished a ton yet, but I am still giddy about having him on the sideline.

Forgot about Petrino. That's actually a decent comparison, burned bridges and all.

He needs to score more than 20 points against a B1G bottom feeder before we have to worry about him being poached; much different situation than Sadler at this point. If we can surprise people and make a bowl game this year, I wouldn't be too surprised if Kansas considers a 2nd chance.

Continuing to can coaches two and three years in isn't the strategy to rebuild their program. It's a great way to waste/spend a boat load of money on buyouts but what good coach wants to come to KU knowing they get 2 or 3 years to turn around an awful program before getting fired??

Mangino will be getting offers from smaller programs quickly and will be mentioned quite a bit i we are successful this year. If he wants a big job it will take 2-4 years of success here with CPR to prove he is ready for big time College HC positions.

Whether or not he wants to return to the HC role remains to be seen.

Turner Gill probably didn't get enough time there, but it's very clear that Weiss is not going to do anything at KU.

And I don't see any chance that KU even gives Mangino a 2nd thought. Same would be true for Mangino regarding KU.
