Vikings RB Adrian Peterson indicted on Child Injury charge

Wow, why would an enormous dude in fantastic physical condition need to beat his (clearly smaller) kid with a tool? Why would anyone, but I digress. Belt, whip, whatever, that is unnecessary.

When I was 11, I deserved to get beat down on multiple occasions.

A hand isn't considered a switch. A foreign object is.

I personally can't imagine a situation where getting hit would teach an 11 year old anything, but even if it did - a foreign object designed to hurt more is just nuts to me. An NFL running back needs to hit a child with something to make it hurt worse than his hand?

Add me to the group who got spanked and will do the same to my future kids when they act up.

Spanking is one thing - beating with an implement is another.

There's an argument that it would be worse for him to hit a child with his hand than it would be to use a switch.

The law in most states disagrees.

The point is for the child to fear the implement, not the parent. If a parent uses their hand, there's a greater chance that the child ends up fearing the parent. Unless you do what AP did - then you end up fearing the implement AND the parent.

When investigators questioned Peterson, they say he told them he regarded it as a normal spanking and not excessive. A grand jury seated earlier this summer decided not to charge him, but now a second new grand jury has indicted Peterson.

How can this happen?
