There is an X factor to every team. With Matt and Abdel missing the first 3 games (this is what I've heard from multiple people) and McKay missing first semester, there will be a few missing pieces early.

My X Factor for the upcoming season is Jameel McKay. If he can rebound and defend the rim at a high level , we will be a very tough team to beat in march. He will also need to adjust very quickly going into Big 12 play.

Who is your guys' X factor?

Nader. I think it's pretty well known that McKay will come and make an impact once he's eligible. BDJ should be one of, if not our best player overall. This team will be absolutely stacked if Abdel can take advantages of thinner wings playing D on him while we're on offense. He's built very solidly.

An improved Matt Thomas would also be something to keep an eye on. He could come in and be lights out like we all kinda expected him to be at the beginning of last year.

Hogue. I'm trying not to get too excited by his MSG outburst, but it really showed what he is capable of. With Niang and Mckay getting a lot of attention, Hogue could easily get a "quiet" 15 points/game.

Any of these guys - Morris, Naz, BDJ, Niang, Thomas, Hogue, or Nader could all get 15-20 points any night. We have a lot of weapons and it's going to keep other teams defenses on their heels and they won't be able to game plan for us very well. The x-factor is McKay though - as last year we had a similar team (although I think we are even better this year) except for a big who defend the rim and rebound like he should this year.

It's Hogue, if he is consistently gets ups 15 a night, we'll be very tough to beat. To me his game at MSG was more impressive bc he was able to create so many buckets for himself. We lost 2 great 1 on 1 players, we need a guy who can get his own shots to replace that. Not to mention he can play/guard 3 or 4 positions on the floor. He allows us to dictate mismatches and can allow us to go big or small with out wholesale subs.

Im really interested to see how minutes up divided, Fred has so many options. The mismatch possibilities are endless.

Fun question to think about, given there could be so many weapons. Personally, I'm very hopeful that Matt Thomas will be the sharpshooter we've heard he is and that we were expecting last season. Nader is the other person I'm most curious about. Should be a really fun year!

We have 8 guys in my mind that can average 8+ (low for some) points a game.
Morris, BDJ, Naz, Thomas, Hogue, Nader, Niang, McKay

Obivously some will be higher, but assuming those 8 get the bulk of the 200 minutes available (200/8 = 25 per player), I don't see why they all can't obtain that goal. Morris, Niang, Hogue will probably all be >30 min. The rest should be in between 20-30.

Yeah Hogue has gone into beast mode. It's hard to go back from that

I agree with Hogue. Here's the way I see it: Hogue steps into the role Ejim played last year, while Nader fills the role Hogue played last year. That means Hogue averages 32+ mpg and has some plays ran through him, while Nader doesn't get plays called for him and is asked to be the garbage man.

If Hogue can step into the Ejim role, it would be great for this team.

I can see why you'd think that. But from what I've seen, Nader is WAY better with the ball in his hands than Hogue was last year. So to say Nader will be the new garbage man might be true to some extent, but I bet he'll get a few plays called for him.

I thought Nader is supposed to be a bit more polished offensively than Hogue. I could actually see Hogue's minutes going down a bit if Nader can play the four. Last year we always needed to slide Hogue down when Niang or Ejim would be in foul trouble. This year we should have McKay, Niang, and Nader to fill those roles.

Who is this and how does he relate to these posts?
