Beginning of the End for the Playoff Selection Committee

An unbelievably ill-advised move the the USC AD, Pat Haden, coming down to the field to "get clarification" from the refs during the USC-Stanford game. Haden is a member of the inaugural Playoff Committee

USA Today opinion that Haden should resign from the Playoff Committee immediately:

I am blown away that an AD even came down from the press box to contest a call, let alone one who is supposed to be level-headed and objective in selecting the best four teams into the playoffs. The committee better tread carefully or the FBS community will turn quickly against the new selection scheme.
 
The committee is going to be highly scrutinized no matter what. It's going to be like the BCS controversy all over again, but with more teams.

What a sham. This thing is a joke.

Let the computers decide who makes the playoff. Condie Rice is on the committee too, right? And she's a BIG Stanford homer. What a crock.

Whatever you think of Haden and what he did, having current ADs on the selection committee was NEVER a good idea.

Because ADs have nothing to gain or benefit from if their school goes to the playoff. :jimlad:

Yeah, there's a "recusal policy"...but they couldn't make it a little bit more bias-free by only selecting people not affiliated with specific schools?

6 of the 13 are currently direct beneficiaries of their school or conference going to the playoff. They couldn't find 6 other people unaffiliated with a major program?

There are AD's on the NCAA tournament selection committee too, they have to recuse themselves from the room when their school is being discussed, I'm sure it will work the same for this committee.

Yup. 5 "power" conferences and four playoff spots. No way there could ever be any controversy with that setup. :jimlad:

Could have just as well kept the BCS...
 
I think all of the talking heads self-righteous indignation is pretty funny. Of all the crap that goes on in NCAA sports the opinion dudes get all lathered about an AD going onto the sidelines? Kinda an odd thing for an AD to do but in the big scope of things sort of a nothing burger action.

All of these guys on THEE COMMITTEE will have their bias. Anyone you put on that committee that has a football background of note will have bias. We'll see whether they can overcome their bias and make fair selections.

You do realize that ADs are on the selection committee for basketball, right?
 
I want you guys to go make a committee out of people with no bias but at the same time, knowledgeable.
 
I thought it was awesome that he came down to contest a call. Some of these officials are completely incompetent and they need to be held accountable. Most of the time these officials are untouchables and that is rediculous.
 
Sarkisian was being a baby, that's why he got flagged. And then he continues by calling down the AD.
 
I get it - I think it was a reasonable composition. However, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect some self-restraint. Call the PAC-12 offices on Monday to get clarification - don't run down the sidelines and get into an argument with the officials on national television.
 
In a perfect world, there would be 4 power conferences and the winner of each conference would go to the playoff. But no, they decided to make it highly complicated and subjective.
 
Meh whatever, its not like ISU will ever be affected by a playoff committee decision anyway.

Because disbanding the current conferences and forming them into four new conferences would be extremely simple and easy to do?

Finding the four best teams every year is not worth destroying 100 years of conference/rivalry affiliations.
