Paul George just snapped his leg in a scrimmage

Accidentally saw a picture on twitter.

Kevin Ware was dunking 6 months after he broke his leg.. Let's not act like they died or something. It's gruesome but it's not as bad as blowing out your knee.

...and Napoleon Mcallum and Joe Theismann never played again. Impossible to tell, at this point, how severe George's injury is.

of course this happened in front of D-rose. He'll probably decide to retire because that's the one injury he's away from completing the athlete's triple crown of injuries.

Yeah, but McCallum was a blown out knee, which was kind of what he was saying as it's worse than a broken leg, ih his opinion.

*edit...okay it was a totally destroyed knee and associated damage, but it wasn't a broken leg.

McCallum suffered a complete hyperextension of his left knee, almost to a right angle. He suffered a ruptured artery in his left knee, and tore three ligaments, tore the calf and hamstring from the bone, and suffered nerve damage in the knee. Let's not pretend like this is comparable to a broken bone.

My god, I pray something like this never happens to me.

Not sure what DreamyCy has against PG, but this injury was nothing short of horrendous. Huge loss for USA Basketball & especially the Pacers.

Just watched it, damn....

Does anyone know if it matters that it happened to the lower part of the leg? I'm not sure if it would heal faster or slower depending on the spot

I have nothing against him.. Someone has already said he might never play again... I'm just trying to bring some of those people down from out of the clouds. It's as gruesome of an injury as you will see in sports but injures just as serious happen all the time in sports. If you had to choose between a clean break and blowing your knee out an educated person would take the break 10 times out of 10. It's fluke injury not won't be a recurring one.

Medicine and surgical techniques for injuries like this have advanced lightyears since those injuries. Willis McGahee went on to have a pretty good NFL career (although probably not as good as he would have had before the Fiesta Bowl). Kevin Ware is fine. Shaun Livingston is still in the NBA.

Unless he's suffered other serious injuries in connection with the broken leg (like McCallum and his knee), then he'll be fine eventually. Much better to break bones than tear soft tissues.

If it were closer to a joint, I could see it causing problems. But breaks in the middle of the bone like that heal just fine like 99.9% of the time (especially when you've got the kind of medical resources the Pacers will give to George).
