It's getting to be that time of year again where people start looking at drafts and leagues. I'm curious as to what other guys/gals use for strategies, if any at all, when drafting their teams?? I know it's all on how scoring is set, but is your league a QB heavy league, rb early, or draft all those wr late because it's a deep draft mindset?? Who are your sleepers?? Potential busts?

I often find it funny some guys will say, don't even use any number strategies, it's all on luck and injuries anyways. Just draft and see where it takes you.

I'm in a QB heavy league where they can take you straight into the playoffs, so Manning, Rodgers and Brees all go early. My strategy this year is to wait on rbs, because I've been burnt by them being injured and there is always an undrafted up and comer.

Also, feel free to post any good webpages/sites that have good insight.

The leagues I play in depend on the scoring, just like you said. One league has passing TDs as 6 points, one has them at 4 points. The 6 point passing TD league is very QB heavy. Unless you're taking an elite RB like Jamaal Charles or LeSean McCoy, your first pick should always be QB. Even the 4 point passing TD league is QB heavy but not as bad. If it is point-per-reception league then I take wide receivers early. If it isn't a PPR league I usually do QB then running back or elite TE like Jimmy Graham.

I assume regardless of league set-up the first pick will be Peyton Manning.

I get killed on my running back drafting every year. Injuries mostly.

I am a huge waiver wire guy. I make a ton of moves every Tuesday morning. Players can be so hot/cold from week to week so I like to take the waiver wire guys that are hot right now.

I've got the first pick in our family league, and RB's usually go really fast. I'm pretty sure Ill go with Charles at this point with my first pick. There are always top 10 QB's left in the 3rd and 4th rounds, and if I were to take Payton first, I would be left with zero quality RB's by the time my 2nd and 3rd rounds picks come up.

My main league is 12 team standard scoring. If anything, quality RB's seem to disappear quick so that's what I usually start with. I just think it's a great advantage to be able to start 3 (1 flex) starting RB's who aren't in much of a timeshare position. Seem to be more consistent on a week to week basis than (MOST) receivers, anyway.

I'm drafting 10th (finished 3rd last season), so I'm looking at Foster, Murray, Ball types. I'll either go with 2 of them, or possibly one + a D. Thomas / AJ Green type. Certain people in my league are known to draft certain people in certain spots, so I'm assuming by my first selection Manning, Graham, Megatron, & possibly Rodgers will be gone. That means only 5-6 RB's should be gone.

What are everyone's thoughts on Beast Mode??

I'm not taking him if he's not in camp and holding out, he's the reason why I noted the top 5 being crucial in my draft. The top 6 wouldl be okay if he wasn't a question mark.

Depends on the scoring format, but my gut feeling is that his numbers will be down across the board this year for a couple reasons -
1. The Seahawks haven't been shy about letting people know that they want to reduce his workload.
2. This is an assumption, but I'm guessing that as Russell Wilson keeps improving, the Seahawks will gravitate to a more pass heavy offense.
3. Age and wear. In his last three seasons he's averaged exactly 300 carries per season. That's a ton of punishment for any running back, especially one who absorbs and creates a lot of contact like he does. I wouldn't be shocked if he's dinged up with one nagging injury or another all season.

Running backs are just a tough group every year. Not many teams have a feature back or a three down guy, so you have to look at other stuff like big play ability, goal line opportunities, and if you're in a PPR league the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Off the top of my head I'd take Charles, McCoy, AP, and probably Matt Forte before I'd consider Lynch. Great candidate for a bounceback season - Doug Martin. Mid round sleeper - Gio Bernard. I think in my league I might be able to get him in the sixth round and possibly get top five RB production in return. Late round sleeper - Trent Richardson, only because I'm a desperate Colts fan still clinging to the hope that he'll earn that first ******* round pick they gave up for him.

What do people think the bounceback will be on Arian Foster and Doug Martin?

If you get the #1 overall pick in your league, who would you take?

Who are your top 5 or so on your "Big Board"?

If by "bounceback" you mean likely to get re-injured then I'd say it's a solid shot. I'm not touching either of those guys unless the timing is perfect. Foster just fell off the proverbial RB cliff. Martin has ball security issues.

Mine is a 12 man PPR league, tds as 6. Luckily I have 3rd pick, so it's Rodgers all the way.

What's people's preferences Yahoo, ESPN, or something else?? I've done both, but I prefer Yahoo.

Tailg8er- I would probably go with a Green, Bryant, or Marshall at that spot. If top tiered rbs and qbs are gone, you might as well get a top tiered wr/te in those listed above or a Graham.

And Beast Mode, he's a lower first tier RB, but if he's holding out, i'd pick someone else. That position depends on your league scoring and what other people pick. If he's best available it makes it a tough choice for sure, but i'd go with a higher tiered wr and hold off for a sleeper.

My strategy the past few years has to have the best receiving corp in the league.

I play in a keeper league and I have used my no.1 pick to keep Calvin Johnson. I was able to acquire Jimmy Graham two seasons ago and I have used my second round pick to keep him. I have the No 1 WR & No 1 TE right off the bat and I have the luxury to draft a less-than-stellar RB and know that Graham and Megatron will make-up for a lack of production.

I won my league last year and I came in 2nd the year before using this strategy.

Martin. Foster is a system RB playing in anew offense. Plus I question how much tread he still has on the tires. Doug Martin is younger, will probably catch more balls as a receiving back, and has more ability to break off a long run. Also, Martin will probably benefit from a slightly more stable QB situation. I can easily see the Texans cycling through 2-3 different starting QBs.

I'd take Charles in that Andy Reid offense if I had #1.

Top 5:

Charles
McCoy
Peterson
Manning
Megatron

I put McCoy ahead of Charles for 2 reasons.

1. NFL defenses always adjust.....Charles will be keyed on more than ever this year.
2. Early reports coming out of Eagles camp is they are throwing the ball to RBs more than ever before.

I am taking Charles, my only caution is that the projected number 1 RB never ends up being the number 1.

Top 5:
Charles
Forte
Peterson
McCoy (will his production drop with Sproles?)
Manning

On number 1...the key to beating the Chiefs the last few years should of always been to stop Charles and limit offensive mistakes against their D. The Chiefs simply don't have many other weapons in their offense.

Mine is a QB heavy PPR league:

1) Manning
2) Rodgers
3)Charles
4) Brees
5) Megatron

Non PPR/4 pt Tds
1) Still Manning bc he carries teams and last years scoring was ridiculous
2) Charles
3) Forte
4) McCoy
5) Rodgers
