Release: SCHEMATIC DESIGNS FOR SOUTH END ZONE PROJECT RELEASED

The bleachers have definitely faded some, but even if those pictures you see so little of the surface area of the bleachers that of course they will look more faded. The seats with the backrests look ten times better, but mostly because of backrest you can see the color better.

Yep - people need to consider the angles. You're seeing 12" of concrete and 2" of painted aluminum.

But yes - they were faded.

I get a kick out of the calls for bigger press box, this that and other things. People think things are bad now? It's probably why I was never up in arms over the SEZ - one doesn't have to go back very far to see what a truly horrid place "Cyclone Stadium" used to be. No pressbox, no lights, no Jacobson, a scoreboard that didn't have Commodore 64 graphics, worst artificial turf ever.

Check out the lights on the bottom of the upper deck..

And then there was the "football"...

Major improvement, I wished they hadn't used the airplane hanger (Jacobson Bldg) for design inspiration though. I was hoping for more brick/stone etc. I'm sure it will look nice though.

Ive always thought that the bigger problem with the jacobsen was that 1. it was rather small in that endzone (didnt run full field width) and it had the weird roof shape. Glass actually looks good to me to have considering all the concrete in the rest of the stadium, and this structure obviously fills the entire space.

Yup. Lived it. We are pretty blessed to have the athletics administration we have now.

I was hoping for less seats and a more impressive enclosed masonry/glass building structure visible from both inside and from the south. This drawing shows the south entrance to be mostly a concrete concourse

I'm just trying to figure out why they used the Iowa Men's basketball team for the people in the picture...

(for the slower among us...because they're really white, ya know?)

Am I the only one disappointed in the design? I was really hoping for something that integrated better with the curved sideline portions of the stadium. The wedges of seating that form the transitions from the SEZ seating to the sidelines don't do it for me. I was expecting to see something more fluid and more similar to the schematic design that was released in '08. I understand the need for the club seating and the monster video board and they need to be worked in somehow also, but the overall package should be considered.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled that the project is approved and moving forward. It has been years in the making, but I'm a bit disappointed in the design.

You have one post. Step up your trolling game.

If you look closely enough, you can see the one or two students entering for free at halftime. Those were dark days.

It's hard to believe the transformation the stadium will have taken by the time the SEZ gets finished. The pics look great. Where do the national championship banners get hung, though?

Our weekly parking lot Meister Brau Bowls were better entertainment than the actual Big 8 action. At least more competitive for sure.

Dark dark era for Cyclone Football. Never forget the 0-10-1 season.....

I felt bad for Jim. His antics made it hard to do so, but I did. He really had zero support from Urick and (obviously) nothing for facilities. As bad as the differential is today, think about what OU and NU and even Iowa had to offer over us. It was no wonder, and actually inevitable.

At least Gene Smith gave McCarney a punchers chance.

That being said - the Jim Walden Farewell tour t-shirt with the '94 schedule on it was hilarious.

I have the DMR picture from the first game in 1975 in JTS (Air Force) when there were no end zone bleachers.

Also, with these changes, the only entrance onto the field will be from the north end zone. Sorry ISUCFVMB (ISU Cyclone Football Varsity Marching Band).

Are they going to put a ribbon video board around the stadium also? I thought I saw that somewhere at few months back.

Anyone else remember when JTS looked like this? I think my car is out there in the lot.
"All the way to Lincoln Way!"

BTW - That was game day Walden's last year.

The "press box" was between the upper and lower decks of the west stands. The TV cameras were stationed in the "dugout" structure at the top. Great for 1972, but grew obsolete quickly. The first video board was added during the Criner era IIRC.

Would be unfortunate if that meant they'd no longer parade around the stadium before games.

So am I the only one that thinks this puts a ton of pressure on Rhoads this season?

He's on contract through 2021, isnt he? Even if we did want him out after this season (i think thats way too soon to be pulling a trigger) i doubt we could afford it.

Plus even if he wasnt, id think we'd owe some time to see if the mangino hire on offense can pay some dividends.
