Mother's Day gifts-For the wife

What are you giving her? I am still thinking on this, need some new ideas.

Just bought a gift certificate for a book store ten minutes ago. Not super proud of this, but it'll do. We're getting a babysitter and going out to eat on Sunday too.

Mother's/Father's Day are stupid holidays. Shouldn't need a special day to thank those people, just something that's always bugged me.

As a father of 2 and a husband of 1, I agree completely, but the most important person in the equation might not.

There are other stupid holidays, but I digress.

EDIT: To the OP...sorry, I'm of no help. I usually just ask the better half what I can do to make her day extra special, and try to follow through.

We upgraded my phone, which was awesome, and I heard that I may or may not be getting a little statue thing.

A couple of friends posted on Facebook these questionnaires that their young kids had filled out for them. "My mommy's favorite color is ________," "My mommy is ____ years old," "My favorite thing to do with my mommy is _________." That kind of stuff. My hubby is going to do one of those with our daughter, and I've typed up one that I'll do with her for him on Father's Day.

Her favorite cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory, one of those electric wine bottle openers, & a bottle of wine.

Nothing. Mutual agreement we wouldn't get gifts for each on mothers/father's day. Of course we have this same agreement for EVERY holiday/event. Works great for us.

I ordered a custom Iphone case from Shutterfly, with pictures of the kids on there. My wife is terrible at buying things for herself, so I just pay attention when she says, "Oh, I need to get one of those." Then I order it and bang, Husband of the year! The questionnaire thing is awesome, I'm going to steal this.

Some ideas:

GC mani/Pedi
CG massage
If she like to flower garden, GC to nursery for plant material...then help her plant them.
If she is a reader, GC to book store, or Amazon if she uses an electronic device.
GC to her favorite salon.
If she's a mom that is always running kids and the vehicle look like it, have it detailed or detail it for her.
GC to favorite store or mall to shop.
Hire a cleaning service to clean the house one time.
If you are someone who always procrastinates your "honey do" list.....you know the ending.
Put together a picnic lunch (she'll never expect that).

With women I think it has less to do with amount and more to do with the thought and effort.

If you want to cheat, here's the one I made up for my hubby. Easy to fix to be Mommy instead of Daddy!

· My daddy’s name is: _________________________________
· My daddy is _____ years old.
· I love it when my daddy and I _______________________________________________.
· My daddy likes to go to ___________________________________________________.
· My daddy’s favorite food is ________________________________________________.
· If my daddy had extra time, he would ________________________________________.
· My daddy’s favorite color is ________________________________________________.
· My daddy always forgets to ________________________________________________.
· The silliest thing my daddy does is ___________________________________________.
· What I love most about my daddy is __________________________________________.
· What does Daddy do while you’re at school ___________________________________.
· My daddy works at _______________________________________________________.
· What do you and Daddy do at bedtime? ______________________________________.

That could be awesome if the mom is due soon. I hear the rooms might be bigger? But the old OB ward was pretty awesome already.

OB and Peds will be moving to the new tower temporarily - I think in June or so? They will move back to the old tower after the facelift to the main building is done, I believe.

My wife loves carrot cake. Where can I get a decent carrot cake in Ames with no notice?

Another fun idea to use with kids, especially younger kids, it to make a cookbook for mom with the families favorite recipes in it......catch is that the children have to tell you the recipes. I have seen this before and it's hilarious reading the recipes. 2#'s sugar, truck load of chocolate chips, bucket of apples, bake at 1000 degrees, etc. It's funny to read how kids think things are made. It's a bit time consuming to make, but I think it's a BIG win!!

Just did this for my wife on Wednesday, also. I figured that was better than a vacuum or workout clothes that were in all of the adds in Sunday's paper.

Sometimes your phone is like a little mini-vacation away from the chaos surrounding you.

I know this sounds unlikely, but Hy-Vee makes one with really good cream cheese frosting!

That sounds ADORABLE. And we moms love stuff that is time consuming, because it means not only that you put a lot of thought into it, but that you and your kids had a wonderful bonding experience over it, too. What a fun idea!
