I'd be surprised if they promote from within for this one. Unless if Fred really thinks somebody in house has the same defensive knowledge that Doc did.

Fred needs a similar guy to Doc, a former head coach who's defensive minded. I know some want a recruiter, but last I checked recruiting isn't a problem.

Neither is coaching the last I checked. Doc was very good and he'll be missed, but it's not like Fred can't coach.

It will be interesting to see if Fred wants another old coach type or if he goes with just a regular type assistant.
