Potential Transfers '14

Do you really think the program is in the same place now as it was when SDW was signed?

And I have no clue who Farnold Degand is, which just further proves my point.

Wayne Morgan recruit. Played AAU ball for Leo Papile and BABC.

This may sound crazy, but I don't think ISU really needs anyone else added to the team this year. The guys that they are looking at right now are not much better than the ones they would be replacing, the ones they are replacing are younger with more potential. Everyone knows that CFH probably isn't going to play over 8-9 deep regardless of who comes in. I also think that players like Matt Thomas and Naz Long have the potential to be great players at ISU, but they need floor time to do that. People give Matt Thomas a hard time, but he made the second most 3 pt baskets for a freshman in ISU history.

We would be fools not to use the two schollies. Injuries, bad grades, family matters, transfers, fights, disenchantment can all happen on a team. Should not last year have been a wakeup call when we basically at on time had seven dependable players and then foul trouble hit. Look at Iowa. They barely had three players decent at end of the year and the rest were not pulling their weight. Why play with 11 schollies (some for the future) when other teams are using all 13. To save a buck? What is this? Midwestern frugality?

This we don't need anyone talk is so silly. You take the best available. Even if some guys don't see the floor, it maximizes the talent on the scout team that prepares the starters for games. Do you think KU and UK pass on great players because they already have 8 solid players? It's like some fans want us to be like Iowa. You recruit to win, it's the players responsibility to earn playing time. This is big boy basketball.

This guy gets it. You bring in the best available players and then let the coaching staff pick the best 7-8 for the rotation. If someone transfers because they aren't getting enough playing time, that means we have someone better ahead of them. With ISU becoming the premier destination for transfers, Fred will have first crack at plenty of talented, proved college players each year. Plus bringing in outside transfers each year really pushes the players to improve their own game, they aren't just competing for playing time with the guys currently on the roster, but also with every possible free agent transfer available.

Two players transferred who didn't play. That doesn't hurt.
Nader will play
Thomas doesn't need a redshirt year.

You fill your roster. Last year we cut it short. When Kane injured his ankle, we were worried. When Georges broke his foot, we were worried who would step up. You fill you roister.

Either way, if SDW (who has yet to contribute anything of significance) and Farnold Degand are the two best cases you can find to make the redshirt case, you're probably barking up the wrong tree.

I think he was making the exact opposite case but nobody knew who that guy was.

Degand had major knee injury issues which set him back, he was a legit player before that, very good defensively.

I'll throw a redshirt name out there for the folks who were around when Johnny Orr coached:

Justus Thigpen.

That was my era but I don't recall him redshirting. I don't recall much from back then.
