Nader arrested for OWI?

If you think Nader is getting kicked off the team for this with no priors, you are an idiot. Sorry to be harsh, but you just don't know what you're talking about.

It was a stupid move and he will pay a penalty but some of you are completely ignorant of what the regular protocol is for this stuff.

Jordan Railey got like 3 games. I'd personally give him 5 or so. Kicking him off is laughable.

High risk if he had any type of related incident at his former school. If he already came in with 1 strike on his record, I would consider that to be at risk.

Substance abuse counseling? Sure. But that still means sitting out for a year in most cases (see Casey Pachall, TCU)

What the hell are you talking about? you don't know what you are talking about. Abuse treatment (in patient) is 28 days for most and that is for hardcore drug and alcohol problems. A year? If you knew anything about substance abuse problems it is that each person is different and each person's situation is different.

Under normal circumstances an OWI, while a serious event, will warrant a punishment in the neighborhood of suspension for multiple games. President Leath made it very clear that offenses this week have little chance of being handled per normal circumstances.

I have to agree with other posters who said that of all weeks to be stupid, this is one of the worst. IF Nader is given a second chance, I hope he understands that, like Irving, another screw-up will probably be the end of him at ISU.

Oh and for those who think he should get kicked or be suspended for a year (not going to happen) be prepared to realize that Nader will be a Top 3 scorer on this team. He should be suspended and should get the normal 2-3 game suspension. Thankfully it's April and not November. By the time November rolls around most won't remember this.

No. That is not true at all. Leath was specifically talking about the riots. That would be ridiculous.

Nothing bad ACTUALLY happened; just the incredible risk of such. At this point it is a stupid decision and mistake by a youngin' that he hopefully learns from. He should get a suspension of a few games, and if he does anything serious again (such as a 2nd OWI) he gets the boot.

I think you should go back and listen to his press conference again.

I'll bet you anything you want he is suspended 6 games or less.

Also, I would love a quote that would insinuate something that has previously gotten a 3 game suspension would turn into getting kicked off the team.

Don't get your dander up. I'm not saying he's going to get kicked out. I'm saying that, based on the President's comments, we should not ASSUME it will be a simple suspension from several games.

Also, anyone know how much of the scheduling is likely completed at this point? Sure would be nice if nader's suspension was complete before the BYU/Michigan type games, though (which were the 3rd and 4th games of the season this past year).

Well we have tons of past history that shows what ISU athletes face for punishment for OWIs. 1 game in FB, usually 1 - 3 for basketball.

You may have missed the fact that things have changed somewhat under the current administration. Right or wrong, the decisions made are very unpredictable. I'm saying we can't assume what punishment was levied in the past will be the punishment levied under this administration.

I'm sorry. I don't have a transcript, and I'm not going to listen to all twenty-five minutes of the bloody thing again. First time around raised my blood pressure far too high.

If you don't feel that this administration has been harsh on some athletes and lenient on others, therefore making it (and its leader) unpredictable regarding what punishments the athletes receive, then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

He likely won't even weigh in. He only weighed in on Bubu after it was appealed into his jurisdiction.

This. The school will be tougher with stuff that happened this past week, but if a normal student got an OWI they wouldn't do anything. This is purely an athletic department matter.

After reading this thread, I wish there was a moratorium on Clonedud postings.
He does bring the hard hitting side of reporting to a thread. Reminds me of Randy Peterson.

Hey, he is well informed and presents the Other Side of the Story.
