Nader arrested for OWI?

If it's his first stupid thing he's done while at NIU and ISU, then I see a 2 or 3 game suspension. Unless Leath steps in of course, and then all bets are off at this point.

Nader was taking BDJ around this weekend too. Not good.

Did you forget that someone almost lost there life from one of those light poles, and just overall how dangerous riots are? Drinking and driving is not a black and white issue. What was his blood alcohol level? Is he a habitual offender?

Drunk driving is bad, but people lean towards the hysterical when it comes up. People do things that put others at increased risk on the road all the time. Eating, talking and texting on the phone, driving for extended periods of time or with little sleep. All of these things increase the likelihood of an accident and put others at risk.
 
I just can't figure out how stupid some of these guys must be?

Irving has been walking on thin ice already, and then he goes and does something like he did. And now Nader, who had to sit out all of last year and watch from the sideline, finally gets his chance to shine this year, and decides to put it at risk as well. So stupid.

I think VEISHEA going away permanently might be a good thing. It seems like a whole new level of stupid comes out every year during this week. Good riddance IMO.

What?
What DI did is not a black and white issue. Nader's on the other hand is black and white.
Irving luckily did not hurt someone while doing something stupid under the influence, just like Nader did not hurt someone doing something stupid under the influence. Have people been hurt doing both of these things? Of course. The difference being the student that got hit was rioting, while most victims of drinking and driving are going home.


People are hysterical over DI because of their anger due to embarrassment, not because that his actions were more is more dangerous than drinking and driving.

It is interesting that a football player got booted for doing something under the influence that is very similar to what students do under the influence when the team earns an upset at home- putting coaches, players, and fans at the same risk.

That would not be good, if true IMO.

I'm sure Nader will be playing at some point next year, but if he has had multiple drinking and driving arrests, that is not good.
 
I will never understand how it becomes a good idea to get behind the wheel after drinking. Downright stupid.
 
A bit ancillary to the topic, but does anyone know the difference between people charged with, say, "OWI 1st offense" and "OWI Retrieval Code Only"?

I'm sure they're basically the same thing, just wondering if there is some difference.

He's 20, so IIRC that means he could have blown .02 and been arrested due to zero tolerance laws. So was he .02, .05, or .2? Did he have 1 drink or 20? There's a lot we still don't know unless I'm missing part of the story.

I'm more talking about the people who are already panicking about Nader getting kicked off the team without any indication of how the staff is going to handle this. Also, not all OWI's are created equal. What was his BAC? Was he driving recklessly? What was the scenario that led to him getting pulled over? Still lots of gaps to start jumping toward conclusions about punishment IMO.

It happens to all sectors: teachers, politicians, clergy, rich people, poor people, smart people, stupid people, and collegiate athletes. You're right, it is stupid, but it's a choice millions of people make every year and most are lucky enough to get away with it. Nader won't be kicked off the team for making this dumb choice. He better keep his act together from now on, though.
