Jake Knott suspended for PEDs.

i have always been under the impression that 75% of pro athletes use PED's. i dont care, its their body, and my entertainment.

This. Goes the same for strippers and plastic surgery.

Good post.

Like all things in a gray area, either the punishment needs to be worse so people actually quit doing it, or just legalize it. The slap-on-the-wrist system does not work.

First time offenders get a "slap on the wrist" of 4 game suspension no pay. What do repeat offenders get?

I really don't care if Jake took PEDs or not, because lets be honest, a lot, if not most NFL players have taken or will take PEDs at some point in their careers. Not all get caught though. Hell, they don't even test for HGH in the NFL (at least they didn't, but were trying to work something out last year. Not sure what ever happened with that.) But, you can bet yours *** more than a few players are taking HGH simply because they don't even test for it.

I train athletes for a living (from young kids to pro level) and you can usually tell if somebody is using. And if some kid takes PEDs to get a full ride scholly to a D-1 school, more power to him. If some collegiate athlete takes PEDs to make it pro, good for him. Pro athletes are generally pro because of genes, so its not like anybody can take PEDs and become a world class athlete. Competition and level of play is just increasing so fast that Pro's need to take PEDs to keep up or take them to heal faster after an injury.

I agree with the couple of previous posters who said, they either need to open the gates and just let PEDs be legal, or they need to test every player before every game. Because a lot of people are taking PEDs and a lot of them aren't getting caught. So, don't label Jake a horrible person because he got caught. Whether he took PEDs unbeknownst to him or not, I don't care.

I think Dave Tate, EliteFTS founder, has a nice opinion on PEDs in this video. The whole 11 min video is entertaining, but he really gets into it at 5:15. (warning: strong language)

A fringe NFL player taking a banned substance? no way! I dont belive it one bit. I would also never believe if someone came out and said and ISU player took a banned substance at Iowa State.

Supplements don't require all ingredients be put on the label. Thus it's somewhat likely he actually didn't know the was a banned ped in the supplement he was taking

I assume the best in people. And I think jake always was a high class guy and this could be an error or judgement or legit supplement issue.

But, in this day and age, if my team trainer didn't hand it to me, I'd be extremely cautious (and if they did hand it to me, would want it all documented). This is a very costly mistake.

It can be an easy excuse, but it can also be a legitimate one. What if Oscar Meyer started putting steroids illegally into its hot dogs and didn't include that on its label?

Is some history of farmers giving animals steroids, antibiotics and other stuff which has caused a uproar among some folk.

Take a step back and look at how far fetched this concept is. The Eagles are a multi-million dollar organization with thousands of dollars invested in each player, including Jake Knott. They have, undoubtedly, strength and condition and dietiary people on staff who can tell a player what to take and what not to take. Also, they can determine what brands are trusthworthy and what are not. To suggest that he did all of his due dilligence and still wound up unkowingly taking a banned substance just doesn't make sense. I'm not real up on the supplement world, but I just can't imagine that a reputable manufacturer that knows it's products will be used by professional athletes would allow banned substances into its products.

Also, if you look at NFL players that have been suspended, it's typically the Jake Knott and Tyler Sash's and not the Adrian Petersons. It's not that hard to fathom that seldom used, largely disposable special teams players would try to push the rule to gain an advantage.

Question for Chris Williams---are we pretending that he didn't know what he was taking after dozens and dozens of players before him have plead ignorance.

Also, are we pretending he didn't take them while at Iowa State?

I know if dozens of players had been fined for taking illegal substances before me, I'd take a bunch of "unknown" stuff that hadn't been approved by the team and then plead ignorance.

"What? I had no idea. I take responsibility, but I had no idea. How could i have known? Oh, ask the team and the team or league or the people they employ to take care of these very issues? No, I didn't want to bother them…so I just took it and must plead ignorance…but I had no idea…didn't know at all."

This sounds like a pretty standard apology from someone who knew what they did.
Yes. He is a cheater.

Regardless of what he says, he'd have to ask us to believe that he was mentally challenged for us to believe he didn't know.

I guess it comes down to whether or not Jake would rather have us think he's the dumbest human being on the planet or a cheater.
