David Letterman Retiring

Loved Dave back in the day, but his time has come and gone, still funnier than Leno though.

Agreed, he was the best by far in the late 90s, etc. (before Conan really took off), but it's a different game these days. He still ran circles around Leno.

Even in the early 2000's, once in a while he had really great show, and that made it worth while to keep watching. For the last 10 years or so, he's just been a grumpy, unfunny, old man.

He went political and bitter since about 2000. I used to love Dave and would not miss a show. However, I wished he would have quit 14 years ago.

Agree. He was great in the 80's after he followed Carson. Now he is just an angry, old man, who regurgitates the same crap over and over.
He was really solid in the mid to late 90's and even into the early 00's IMO.

Once Jimmy took over for Leno, Letterman had to see the writing on the wall. Jimmy is better than Leno and Letterman is not nearly as funny as Jimmy

I thought he retired about ten years ago. :twitcy: He really became very political and lost me at that time.

Dave has lost a step, but for a good stretch in the 80's and into the 90's he was a comedy god. I recorded every Late Night and watched after school. His day has come and gone, but he's on the Mt Rushmore of comedy

This is kind of sad to me. I've been watching Dave since I was little. Who will replace him? My guess would be Conan if that is possible. I think Craig is hilarious but there is no way his show would work at the early time slot.

He's retiring at the same age Carson did. He'll be 67 in a week. Sounds pretty standard to me.
