North Carolina Central

Well...im not going to squabble over "backing in" equalling a loss in the conference tourney...but i know what you are saying.

Just took a long time to get over that loss....still not sure some of us are over it...and though nobody this year was around for it....you still know what a kick to the balls is and feels like. NC Central isnt a kick to the balls.....buts the equivalent of someone dropping their back foot prepping to do it.

I have no doubts we will be fine.......but i might keep a hand over the boys just in case.

Dude, seriously? Why dwell on something that cannot be changed? Life is too short, move on. :-)

And to those who's hands are already wringing, I guess just look back at Hoibergs teams in the first round of the NCAA tournament. UConn and Notre Dame, 2 of the better programs in the history of college basketball, dismantled by a Hoiberg offenses.

Guess if not posting a what amounts to a 14-7 record, in the best conference in America, where you actually play everybody, is not enough to instill confidence for Friday's game nothing will.

No they don't. They don't go deep into their bench, basically like us 7, sometimes 8 guys deep, but the two tallest guys don't get any playing time. Their biggest guys with PT are 6'7" and 6'8". Georges and Ejim should dominate them inside.

Judging by that I think I'd give it to Georges inside almost every time down. Mix in a couple of drives by Kane and some inside game from Ejim, which should open up Naz and Thomas from 3 a bit. Stick a combo of Naz and Morris on Ingram. If he gets shut down then I can't see where NCCU would score. It looks like he is the reason for the season they've had. The other starters in the championship game went a combined 6-19 from the field. Looking at other box scores it seems that maybe Jawara could cause some issues too. He doesn't seem to be the big scorer that Ingram can be though.
If we give NCCU plenty of chances to stay in the game then they'll take advantage as any team with 20+ wins would. If we can avoid a slow start and get Georges going inside we will win by a good amount.

Here is a little breakdown of NCCU I pulled together. This is stat heavy so NCCUQUE feel free to color this black and white picture.

Starters:
14 Jeremy Ingram 6-3 175 G 34 min, .375 from 3 (66 made), 8.3 FT att/gm (.769), 3.8 R, 20.6 ppg
40 Alfonzo Houston 6-3 190 G 26 min, .160 from 3, 9.6 ppg
1 Jay Copeland 6-7 255 F 22.2 min, .531 overall %, 5.9 rpg, 8.1 ppg, fouled out 9 times
10 Karamo Jawara 6-8 220 F 29.6 min, .490 overall, .257 3% (9 made), 4.8 R, 79 A, 28 TO, 22 B, 29 S, 7.2 ppg
32 Emanuel Chapman 6-1 160 G, 34 min, .365 3% (23 made), .818 FT%, 4.3 R, 6.5 A, 2.5 R, 2.1 S, 6.8 ppg

Bench:
2 Jordan Parks 6-7 200 G/F 19 min, .662% overall, .583 3% (7 made), 5.6 R, 38 B, 10.2 ppg
13 Reggie Groves 6-2 190 G 18 min, .328 3% (41 made, 11 2pt made), 5.1 ppg
5 Ebuka Anyaorah 6-4 194 G 9 min, .533% overall, 1.0 R, 3.0 ppg

Also:
0 Dante Holmes shoots .407 3% with 11 makes on the season in 212 min
3 Juwan Moody shoots .391 3% with 9 makes on the season in 137 min

Do you want to fill in the blanks, NCCUQUE?

The keys for us are how Jawara, Parks, and Groves play.

Jawara is the glue guy, does a little of everything. He must stay out of foul trouble.
Parks has played out of position due to our lack of big man. He is a quick jumper and has good range from 3, but does not take them due to playing out of position.
Groves when hot is a beast, had 10 3's in one games.

Sorry for the delayed response, recovering from bacterial pneumonia, medication Knocks me out.

Mind sending some of that stuff up here? I am all out of my meds form my surgery last week and havveee thhhiiissss weird shhhaaaaaaaakkee.

Also, NCCU Must Be Destroyed.

So it seems hitting free throws would be important for ISU, as sounds like we are gonna get fouled.

That is the one area of our game that causes me real concern. We do not make free throws consistently at all, even from our backcourt.

Not working through the whole thread, but NCC llooks like a reasonably formidable opponent.

I hope Fred and the team aren't staying at the Hampton Inn this weekend...

Conversely, NCCU shoots a respectable .727 from the line as a team and they shot 860 of them in 33 games (26 per). Compare to ISU's numbers of .694, 762 also in 33 games (23 per).

Interestingly ISU's opponents have shot .727 from the line - an identical percentage to NCCU. Better get used to seeing ISU's atrocious FT defense.

Maryland had their way with NCCU for the majority of the game. Easily could have been 20+ victory. I also watched and NC State game and that was a hard game to watch. NC State should have used TJ Warren on every play.
A couple things that stuck out to me concerning NCCU: lack offensive options, slow close out on defense-allowed a lot of open 3's, majority half court D, crash the boards with 3 and send 2 guards back, switch between man and zone, Ingram is solid (I would like MM to take him fullcourt-limit his touches).

Oh my gosh folks yes it was a joke. I do not think nccu is racist. I guess I should have know someone would be stupid enough to take that comment seriously and should have added a pirate face.

I kind of doubt many NCCU fans would take it as a joke as evidenced by the response of the NCCU fan on this board. Probably wouldn't hurt for you to try to find a better way to be funny.

Don't know if this has been posted but there's an article in the register quoting Bobby Lutz warning us we better be ready for a tough game, and he's coached against them this year. Think I'll believe Bobby over some of our experts predicting an easy blow-out, and fortunately I'd bet Fred is too.

I did not have a problem with Sadam bad joke, I had a problem with the poster that stated, "NCCU does not allow white people to attend."

No big deal. Just didn't think any of those type of posts were funny (including the one about your coach) or appreciate being called stupid for not thinking they were a joke.

I just hope the refs are call it like the Big12 which I worry they may not. We're used being physical with the likes of the 3 teams we beat in the Big 12 tournament and now we go up against a green team if you will and am a bit concerned we'll get in foul trouble. Hope I'm wrong.

Because I'm sure it would behoove him to say "This will be an easy win, you guys don't even need to try" regardless of if it was the truth or not....
