Nowhere and Everywhere
As I posted in another thread this week I had to miss the OSU game but I made arrangements so that my son could go. In his own words he was not going to miss "Melvin Ejim Day". Because of how awesome of a game it was he now has some new things he does around the house. 3 were easy to figure out but 1 I'm struggling to figure out.

Here are the things he now does.
1. Apparently they played "The Man" during Ejims senior day highlights so he now has that on his Ipad and listens to it all day and has it on repeat while shooting hoops.
2. He has reenacted Naz's shot about 1000 times in the basement and in the driveway. He also tells anyone who will listen to him the story of it.
3. At the end of overtime when Kane got fouled grabbing a rebound to clinch the game he was doing his flexing right in front of where our seats are so he got a good view of it. He runs around the house showing my wife and our daughters how to flex like Kane does.

But the 4th I have no clue what he's talking about. I admittedly don't pay attention to how players run on the floor during the starting line ups. Our son keeps trying to show us his version of the "Monte Morris Dance". I have no clue what he's trying to do. He basically does some sort of high knees thing and switches back and forth scratching the sides of his head. He said he wants to know how to do it better so he can do it this summer at ISU bball camp (the mind of a 7 year old!!!). Does anyone know what it is or have any video of it for him to see. I thought his obsession with the Monte dance would go away but he is dead set on showing it to him this summer at camp and won't let it go.

Is the trying to reinact what Morris does after making a 3? He kind of does a high knee backwards down the court while hitting the side of his head with the 3 fingers.

Don't think so because after doing the high knees thing he does some weird arm thing.

I sound like a really old geezer trying to explain this.

I was hoping they would put up the flex cam graphic and show Kane at the end. That would have been perfect.

I'm jealous your son is so into this. My 7 year old has no interest in watching sports at all. Although he does ask now if the Cyclones win or lose.

It's when Morris is introduced for starting lineups. I don't know exactly what it is, but it involves the side of his head and the three sign that we see from a lot of players. It's a variation of that celebration. I remember now. He does the three sign on the side of his head and then puts them in air holsters, I believe.

He sounds a lot like me at that age, so look forward to him being even more of a freak than his dad about ISU basketball. The Register used to print the starting lineup for both teams on gameday. For every game, I would play out my own version on my hoops outside, or if the weather was bad, in our living room. Dedric Willoughby rarely missed and Nick Collison usually fouled out.

That's a good song to shoot hoops to; boosts the confidence.

It's a blessing and a curse. He has an Ipad that he does some school work on but it also for fun. He has links to all the schedules and you tube channels for ISU. He knows when there are games and makes sure we are going. So it's tough to hide a game if we know we can't make it.

He is obsessed with all things basketball, he can't get enough of it. We have never pushed him to anything but he just keeps wanting to do more. He also follows Kevin Durant alot and for Christmas I took him to the Twin Cities when the Thunder played the TWolves. Because of his bball obsession it's pretty easy to keep him occupied though. He likes to watch skills videos on youtube and then go outside and practice them. His big thing right now is he is working on his spin move down low and has a couple videos of Niang he looks at and tries to copy his spin moves.

Surprisingly the kid is good at bball. I know every parent says their kid is good and I hate sounding like I'm bragging but at 7 years old he's got amazing form when he shoots and he rarely misses anything inside the free throw line. Like I said we have never pushed him to anything and we are trying to slow him down with basketball but he is just obsessed with learning everything about it.

We have to reenact almost every game in the basement or outside. However almost all of our games seem to go into 7 overtimes as that is his way of not having to stop playing. He currently is on a big kick of ISU vs TCU for some reason. Last year his big thing was he was McGee or Babb and I always had to be Kelichi from WV and I was only allowed to do his big swinging hook shot.

Pretty sure it's the Nae Nae. He and SDW are known for posting videos on Instagram doing it. Pretty fun too

Not every parent says their kid is good.

My 6 year old is smart as crap, but not very good at sport at all. Just not very coordinated at this point. He still tries, but I think he's going to excel at things other than sports at this point.

My 4 year old has a better shot at being ok at sports, but he's kind of a goofball and off in his own world a lot. We shall see.

Your 7 year old has his own ipad.

Yep. He has an Ipad Mini. He has the option of doing some of his weekly homework on it and his teacher can send out practice problems to them in an app they use.

We keep time limits on it for him and he never comes close to them as he's an active kid. He's allowed so many minutes of learning and so many minutes of fun on it daily.

He had lots of friends that already had Xbox etc. Our thoughts were if he was going to get something like that might as well be something he can use to learn with as well. So we chose an Ipad Mini. He actually spends way more time on educational things than he does games just because he is an insanely curious kid.

I love it. Not only is your son already a hard-core Cyclone Fanatic, but if he keeps on developing he could end up playing for ISU as well.
