Why?!!

Sure, they need a wide receiver, but when you have a back like AP, you sign guys who can block for him. In Berrian's own words:

“I’m not the greatest blocker. I’m not going to lie, but that’s what practice is for,†Berrian said. “I’m going to go out there, and I’m going to work at it. I’m definitely willing to throw my body out there. I’m definitely going to go out there and give my full effort. I’m not going to give a lackluster effort.â€

Shoot, I'm thinking they should draft offensive linemen with two of their top four picks (1,2,3,3). And here the lock themselves in for six years with a skinny wideout! Sure they needed a wide receiver--but the right one!

I'm still hoping Moss returns home! :)

There have been a couple reports that Minny does have interest in a New England free agent WR, unfortunately it isn't Moss. It's Jabar Gaffney. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is also the agent for Berrian so this may have some legs.

To his credit, he recognizes that this isn't the best part of his game and he wants to get better at it. Blocking is one of the skills that a WR can improve on with effort and coaching. It's one of the skills that isn't directly correlated to the physical attributes that normally make WR's great.

I really don't have a problem with this. He was the 2nd best wr available in FA (besides Moss), and wr is a huge need for the Vikes. They have plenty of cap room.

I'm not against getting Berrian either. I'm viewing this as a Berrian for Williamson trade......and Berrian is definitely an upgrade. He's not gonna be a true #1 star receiver, but its an upgrade. Hopefully he'll work on the blocking.

I think that stretching the field by a WR is up there in importance for a WR compared to a blocking WR. I think the BB will do a good job or doing this, now if TJ can just get him the ball down there before teams start not respecting the deep ball.

Pretty simple. If you have a WR threat you can't put 47 people on the line of scrimmage to stop the run. Kinda the same idea as having good guards and post players. Off to a quick start this FA season with 2 of the top 15 free agents now signed.

I think this is a great move, with AP, now you have an actual deep threat, not sure if the qb can deliver but he was a first year guy, cut him some slack.....I think this move will benefit Sydney Rice big time.....big Syd moves to the number 2 spot and i think this will help him develop, he's got big time talent....

IMO, they need a threat at Tight end, someone who can block and stretch the middle of the field.....this would really help the passing game and moving the sticks to give it to AP 3 more times!!!!!

I Like shiancoe @ the Tight-end but I did hear we were trying to contact Shockey as well.

It's great to see the Vikes throw down some cash and grab 2 of the top free agents available. The Wilfs are digging in their pockets and trying to get it done. Hopefully T Jac can get it done also. IMO Berrian and Rice should be a good match as a pair of receivers. If we can have a solid passing game--then watch The Purple Jesus(AP) run!!!

berrian may have been the 2nd best receiver available but they overpaid way too much for him. He is now the 4th highest paid wr in the nfl. But he has done nothing to merit that kind of contract. True he has potential and he is a deep threat but he hasnt had a 1000 yard season, he has 0 pro bowls and has had trouble staying on the field due to injuries. the vikings paid 42 million to a track star who catches the ball every once in awhile
