Student Section

Odd - I don't recall calling out students that were there tonight.

Here's my deal. Most every student that discusses stuff on this site tries to make every game. Obviously, **** happens and you can't make one or two, but overall they show up.

These same students that come to CF are going to be the ones:

Spend more time making fun of the curly haired girl, CAC and griping about oversold seats than attending the gamers and applying peer pressure on others to attend.

as you put it. You are calling out these same students for 'griping about stuff when they don't attend', when they are the ones that do attend and as such should have a right to discuss this stuff.

That's why I can't understand why you are complaining about students complaining. The ones that are complaining about stuff like the curly girl and CAC are the ones that show up to experience the ****. It's not like they complain about it through the grapevine.

Attendance was rather poor all around tonight, not just students.

You are drunk. Attendance was very good for every section except students. The students that were there were loud though, as usual. seriously, if it not for the students it would be silent for most of the game.

"Most of these same students like myself went through high school with Chizik here. Doesn't seem to stop 10,000 student showing up to football games on Saturday's. Shouldn't be this hard to get 2,000 to show up for basketball games."

Because the younger students could get football tickets. They couldn't get basketball tickets. Plus, Asians seem to enjoy football more than basketball.
This makes absolutely no sense. Don't see very many at either. They make up a very tiny fraction of the student attendance.

It was kind of a joke.

My point is there is a lot of complaining by the students but the action doesn't happen. Students that show up rock. Wish it was more of a rowdy group - but then they get trashed for doing such by a few idiots so I get that.

But it's just inexcusable to have that many empty seats game after game and makes it worse when they complained about the tickets being oversold. Lots of irony there.

I would just sell the upper deck of the student section as assigned seating for students. That way if you don't want to worry about not getting a seat, you can still have one. Keep the lower sections as general admission so any student that chooses to wait in line is still rewarded.

I know a lot of people who didn't show up tonight because of studying, although I don't think that is much of an excuse. Also, on those weekend games, especially the early ones, students usually don't show up because they are hung over. I'm not saying it's right, but it's what happens.

All in all, there's not much change that the students can make beyond "showing up", but that in itself would just reinforce to the AD that their policies are working. I can understand why overselling would drive people from wanting to show up, based on the chance they could get turned away. Yes, this many empty seats means there is barely any chance of that happening (unless we get KU-levels again).

Another thing worthy of discussion is the fee to even print off your ticket to give to someone else. The AD charges students to give/sell your ticket if you can't make it. That's a pain to deal with, and turns people off from even trying to sell their ticket to someone else who wants to go.

There are more things I can get into, but the fact is that the students don't have much say in how the AD operates, and I doubt that CAC has much say either, as they hardly do anything beyond organizing promotions (which are **** this year, anyways).

Need a place to vent as this made me angry. My buddy got two free tickets from his co worker through Naz. Had them reserved for him and his wife. His 2 month old got sick last minute so his wife stayed home and he invited me.

Go to pick up the ticket at the ticket office and they say I can't use the ticket because it wasn't my name on the list it was his wife's. Why the hell is that?

He had to give Naz his name a day or so prior. What was he supposed to do ask Naz on Gameday to change names on who gets the tickets?

Cyclone Alley needs to turn the student section into rabid "soccer hooligans". They should give the student section something useful to do, like chants/cheers they can yell instead of just "ohhhhhh!!". They could also give the students random drums to bang on, giant flags to wave, toilet paper rolls, scarves, flares and other hooligan stuff. Then they could put a big fence around the student section for the intimidation factor (this would also prevent them from rushing the court).

Missed the game due to a group project. Gave my ID to someone else and they went. First game I've missed since the Kansas State FB game in 2012 (father was in ICU and I drove to Ohio).

I can't make excuses for everyone but sometimes people just can't go. Complaining on here ain't gonna change it though. Do I wish there was better attendance? Yea. Is there much I can do? No. I already go with all my friends that have tickets.

We know some people can't go, but thousands for every game? So previous seasons students weren't busy?

There are a lot of good student fans on this site and at games, but hearing some of the awful excuses in this thread makes me less and less surprised at how pathetic attendance has been for the students. There have always been reasons that make it tough for students to get to games. It just seems that this year, students let those reasons actually stop them from going.

Half of the balcony needs to be taken away from the students, that section should not be empty.

Oh I love some good futbol chants!

Should have done this one during the EIU game.

Upper deck student section is less than 1000 seats. But based on overselling, an entirely empty upper deck would represent about 1400 tickets unused. I would estimate around 1200-1300 went unused for this Texas game.

Edit: I say this not to discredit your post. Your points are fine. It just doesn't require exaggeration and/or hyperbole to make the point. 1400 tickets for Hilton represents 10 percent of total attendance. My comment was more one of clarification than anything else.

Don't know if this has already been said but I think the single file line to get into the games is a factor. Before, rushing into Hilton with a herd of students while battling for the best seat possible was really exciting. Now, people see the line and immediately decide that it would be much easier to watch the game on TV then wait in that garbage line.

As a student at the game, I too was disappointed by the attendance. The only things I can think of tonight are 1) there were a couple night exams (which shouldn't be that many) and 2) the die hards go to the game, the ones on the fence can stay home and have a better view then the balcony for less work ie. Waiting in line/ driving there/ fighting traffic. Not everyone lives within walking distance. (yes college kids are lazy.) Coming to Ames for the games is something out of towners look forward too as a "treat" I think some college kids take the Ames/hilton experience for granted.
