Student Section

People claiming they don't go because they don't like the idea of being turned away are ridiculous. You already paid for the tickets. If you go and get turned away you get your money back. If you don't go you are wasting you money. Oh yeah, and you won't be turned away because there is a **** ton of empty seats. You don't have to wait outside, come anytime within two hours of tip, come inside right away, and you'll have a seat.
 
I'd be shocked if the student section was shrunk again after this year after getting cut down like 7 years ago. Especially when hundreds of students couldn't get in that wanted to for Iowa. Probably just going to have to deal with it.
 
I don't know how much in student fees is contributed to the AD in return for that student section seating, but even if it was a monetary wash, JP would really have to consider reducing the allotment to the students. If you can get the same money and have a full Hilton, the program needs the full Hilton.
 
I'm normally a defender of the students but this is just unacceptable. Attendance is the same as it was during the McDermott era. How the hell?
 
As a student at the game, I too was disappointed by the attendance. The only things I can think of tonight are 1) there were a couple night exams (which shouldn't be that many) and 2) the die hards go to the game, the ones on the fence can stay home and have a better view then the balcony for less work ie. Waiting in line/ driving there/ fighting traffic. Not everyone lives within walking distance. (yes college kids are lazy.) Coming to Ames for the games is something out of towners look forward too as a "treat" I think some college kids take the Ames/hilton experience for granted.

There is no question he'd lose his *** on it unless he could sell the tickets at about $300 a pop.

I would just tell the students that 90% of the seats have to be full on average throughout the season or the student section is going to shrink. If they want the student section to stay the same size then they have to show up for the games.

You're selling the balcony twice plus student fees. You'd need about $300 per seat to break even.

It isn't going to be a monetary decision.... It's going to be a perception decision.

Personally think if you didn't attend X number of games this year you shouldn't be able to renew your tickets until those who attended get dibs.

A. why would anyone live in west Ames and not in campustown? far away from welch and the campus. it's stupid. yes I'm harsh and no, i don't care about your excuses.

B. i completely took for granted games and activities while in college. i wanted to go out drinking most of the time not realizing what was out there. i always missed bball games because i didn't want to go (most games were not on TV back then) and no i love going to ames for the games. you can't tell someone not to take it for granted -they have to learn on their own.

-Simply over-selling is not the answer. It probably makes it worse as far as getting students motivated to go.
-Reduce the number and sell more regular tickets. It would probably help attendance, and a little shortage can make people view student tickets as a privilege and not a right.
-Market and promote the games to students more. Get the AD to reach out to other organizations besides CA (something CA should be doing to get students to games).

CA is worthless. The primary reason you need such organizations is for things like welcoming recruits and getting fellow students to come to games. CA does neither.

I live in West Ames for a few different reasons. I have several friends there, it is a lot cheaper, and I honestly couold care less about Welch. I still get to the vest majority of the games.

how about sell the same number of tickets to student but make them claim them one week in advance. anything not claimed (in person - not just clicking something online) goes up for public sale. you've just guaranteed them the student rate and on nights like tonight ISU gets the student money and the public money. if it's legal i don't know why they wouldn't do it. if it's too cumbersome to have this system then make any student ticket in the upper deck transferable without fees and don't require a student ID to get in.

Driving a car isn't too difficult.
 
Students whine when the section was oversold by Pollard. Students whine when they get turned away for the rare 2 or 3 home games. Students whine about CAC and use it as a lame excuse for not going to the games they bought tickets for.

Clearly even with a very good ranked team and program - they can't show the **** up to games against teams other than Iowa/KU. Losers.

Students are a huge part of CBB - more important to CBB than any other sport - period. Show the **** up.

Those attending sick of reading about this? Peer pressure. Think it doesn't work? ******** - it does.

I hope next year the amount of student tickets are reduced.

We will have to hear the whiners complain about that too - but at least Hilton will be full.

I think this is the best idea.

I lived in West Ames for my 2 last years of college. Still managed to make it to all the games. The only thing students have are excuses, there is no reason as to why they should be having this kind of attendance for a top 25 ranked team. I would have killed to have this type of team during my college career.
