McDermott was amoung the standing room only contingent who made the trip to the QC to watch LA Pomlee and No. 2 Central defeat No. 6 Bettendorf and advance to state in 4A. He had 19 and 15, but didn't lead his team in scoring.
I've said this here before, at 6'8 Pomlee will get his stat line with putbacks, free throws and dishes from teammates. He is athletic, but rarely creates his own shots with any kind of post move. I think with grade issues and sitting out last season with a blood clot in his leg that ISU might be able to find someone better.
See for yourselves if you go to state and watch him.

I'll try and get the link posted from the local news, but they are slow in getting their highlights uploaded. It will be up on this site eventually: KWQC-TV6 News and Weather For The Quad Cities - TV6 Sports

A night to remember for Davenport Central / QCTimes.com

I say take a flyer. If he has no post moves. We have the right coach to teach post moves. Hopefully he can get his grades. The blood clot thing does not worry me to much. It appears he has that handled. I know it can come back and if it does then it does.

From what I understand, clots are no longer an issue, and imagine in a year or so how athletic our front court would be with Craig, Wes, and Pomlee, and Buckley and Lucca in the back court! There would definitely be some highlight reel dunks.

Davenport Central plays the opposite of disciplined basketball.

Its allway a good idea to keep our state best talent in state. It will lead to others in state recuits to look at them when they come around. Remember back a few years when Kansas took Iowas best talent. Lets keep in state.

Is Pomlee interested in us?

His final three is ISU, Wisconsin and West Virginia with Wisconsin I believe being his stated No. 1 choice. Again he is a late commit being a senior this year so I don't what he's waiting for. I don't even know what offers he has. I posted it only because McDermott was at the game, meaning that stirs the pot a little.

If he is looking for playing time Wisc. would be a poor choice. They already have 3 top 100 bigs plus Ivan Markoff in their classs of 2008 and 2007.

I hope we end up with him. I definitely think he needs work on his offensive game, but he is a good defensive player, shot blocker, and rebounder. I have seen him play a few times and he kind of reminds me of a Damien Staple. I think if GMAC worked with him he could be a quality player. He has very long arms and is a lefty. I don't think there are many good post players in this class, let alone left.

How Tall is Pomlee?

Watched one of his games on mediacom & he didn't look more than 6'6" - 6'7". Also didn't seem like a strong physcial presence down low.

Seems to me we need some height, bulk & attitude in the paint.

Staple is the same comparison I came up with when I first saw him. Great minds think alike!

Jiri didn't have what I would call an arsenal of low post moves when he came here either.
