basketball jersey redesign concept

Some mentions of Michigan State wearing shirts with the cursive 'State' in comparison to these - difference is that design was actually worn in late 70s early 80s.

This design was never used for basketball uniform. Doesn't make it bad, but it isn't a true throwback like Mich State and shouldn't be an example of 'other schools are doing it.'

actually you're wrong...kansas is doing it; that 'Jayhawks' cursive wasn't ever a real thing.

I stand corrected. I was referring more specifically to MSU throwbacks.

I had sworn KU actually wore that scripted Jayhawks design -- apparently not. (It just has a look similar to other designs from that era, probably why my memory failed me).

I'd like to see a gray alternate with a scripted "Cyclones" in gold. Only other change would be to update the number to use a retro font of some kind rather than the modern Cyclone font. In OP's current design, the retro name plate font + modern number font doesn't really mix.

I was actually surprised by how good it looked together.

thought i'd distract myself from thinking about tomorrows game (which i'm going to) by doing a concept jersey that i've been thinking about lately. i always liked the old wordmark(s) from the 80s and think they are much more interesting than just the standard typeface they use now to spell out 'iowa state' and 'cyclones.' i changed up the old 'iowa state' wordmark a bit and tried to give it an updated flare, and plan to do the same with the 'cyclones' mark soon (could look cool on the gold jersey). any feedback is appreciated!

I love the work but I cannot accept the font as it represents the darkest era of ISU fandom I ever had. Criner, probation, Gordon Eaton, Sam Mack. I would never like to see that font or the tornado ever again.

It would be like Drake bringing back the D+ campaign again. Why open an old wound?

I know they are popular, but I just don't think we would look good in the gray.

I liked the KU grays they wore against us, other than that, most are ugly.

KSU and UT's attempts have been pretty bad.

I think Adidas makes cooler jersey than Nike. However, Adidas also makes ugliest jersey of all time.

I think this design would look awesome on an off-white "cream" colored jersey, almost like the color the San Francisco Giants use when they're at home.

Only other thing I'd consider would be sprucing it up with a Walking Cy or something on each side of the shorts.

Any Photoshop users want to take a stab at what I just described?

I get the idea but if you are going to do it you have to completely do throwback not just the font. That being said if we do get throwbacks we should do the 2000 era or 2005 era. I don't know the exact years though just that they were worn during those years. I know people hate the blue but i wouldn't think it would be to hard to find something that worked like switching blue for white in the 2005 ones. You'd also want to make them with current materials because those things were baggy.

Love that old wordmark!

would like to see more trim or design to the uniform itself. Something cohesive with the round swoopyness of the typeface.

i'm not really a big fan of the grey jerseys because a) everyone does it and b) it strays away from the point of having school colors. if you just want to do something that looks cool, why even have school colors? they just don't look as bold or something. that being said, i mocked one up as per requested as well as a dirty-white san francisco giants version and a new cardinal one.

the point wasn't to be a full-on throwback (which is why i didn't change the font of the number originally) but rather an integration where it might be able to work as an alternate mark that fits with the family of our current branding. i added some vintage cy logos to the shorts and changed out the number style and added some trim around the sleeves. i don't know that the shorts really need anything else; i feel like our current shorts have that ugly swooshy stripe just for the sake of having a stripe.

i guess you can't please everyone but if people are going to point out branding issues and the use of various marks that don't follow our current objective as an identity or whatever the hell, maybe start with the fact that we have defunct cy logo that covers the entire back of our jerseys.

Very nice! I agree with you about the grey color, especially now that I see your mock-up. I also prefer this without the edging around the arm holes.

If you take away the gold edging around the arm holes, and change that drop shadow on the number to a gold outline or get rid of it altogether, that one on the left would be absolutely perfect.

I would be completely comfortable turning all uniform design over to you if I were the athletic director. You seem to have great taste for this type of thing!
