Official 2014 Recruiting thread

That's incredible for us.

It's tough to conceive of us doing A LOT better than that. Granted, there's not a lot of difference between #7 and #9, but I'm actually quite pleased with this class, particularly coming off a trainwreck year.

Lot of holes to fill on defense, but it has me optimistic that we might shore things up and get back to a bowl. Anxious to see what the Mangenius puts in place in Spring ball.

Cheers

If I understand correctly, transfers are not considered when ranking a class. If Montgomery were included in the ranking we'd be much higher. I believe he was a 4* high school kid.

Yes, he was the 21st ranked receiver in the class of 2012. He had offers from most of the big boys, Bama, Notre Dame, Okie, LSU, Florida, FSU...etc. Just curious that the only visits Rivals has listed was to SFU, Iowa State, and Maryland. I wonder if he wanted to go somewhere where he could be the big man on campus, and not just another number at the other schools.

or the offer list was overstated. Some of these may not have been committable. But being 21st ranked and a 4-star, still an exciting pick-up for the class.

Lyman LB Greg Gooch down to Cincinnati, Iowa State, Indiana

Longwood Lyman’s Greg Gooch has narrowed his final college list to Cincinnati, Indiana and Iowa State and the 6-foot-2, 235-pound linebacker will announce his decision on Monday, his mother’s birthday.

In order of preference I'd sure like to see one more true DT commit, but this is one position that I don't think you'd turn down a kid like this who would commit to us. This one would be a great pickup for the Cyclones.

I really am believing to think that having a cool/interesting/unique name somehow plays into our staffs evaluation of a player.

On tape he looked like a man playing with boys. The kind of LB that scares the crap out of the skill players on the other team.

Repost his profile. This guy would be a HUGE get.

Want!

He has a long list of impressive offers. When is the last time we've taken a kid with (Michigan St, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Mississippi St., and South Florida) offers? I'm not going to say anything else, but from what I've seen we have a great shot at getting him, and why wouldn't he want to come with our recent history with putting LBs in the NFL.

It's not so much putting them in the NFL, but getting them on the All Big12 team.

A.J. Klein
Jake Knott
Jeremiah George

Wally knows what he's doing when it comes to coaching LB's.

I am excited to see if JG gets drafted this year. Probably a late round pick at best but he will make a roster somewhere next year.

Wally is a Linebacker genius. I assume you all have heard of Derrick Brooks. Wally coached him back in the day too.

Sorry I went off subject there but yes Wally's history with LBs has to be in the back of Gooch's mind.
