Does anyone know if you can find +/- stats for college basketball? It would seem to me that his would be off the charts. Just watching the games with our slow starts in each half and then we pick it up as he comes into the game. I probably could google but it is better to go straight to the experts! Thanks.

Although I think Monte is a great player and could easily start, moving Kane to 2-guard, plus-minus is of limited value as an analysis tool in basketball. In a game like hockey which has frequent line changes and low-scoring there is much less randomness in scoring which makes it a key stat line. In college ball, not so much...

Thanks for the help? If you watch NBA stats or game cast, they have a running +/- number by player. Maybe just a game by game thing. That was why I asked if they had it for college games.

We were down what? six points early in first half. Monte comes in at 15 minute mark, plays the rest of the half, and we are up 12 at half time. That would be +18 right there. Second half not as dramatic but similar results.

I think the difference with him at point was evident on the Hogue dunk. Nice drive and dish to set up a teammate coming down the baseline. Later in the game Kane has similar drive and Hogue available for a repeat dunk but he takes it himself and misses. Little things mean a lot.

And the NBA uses it every game.

Call me a Hawkeye troll for putting down the stat if you want. It just goes to show your ignorance. +/- is a lousy stat. Jeff Schultz from the Washington Capitals lead the nhl one year in that category. He's a worthless player and I don't even know if he has a job anymore. I can keep going with players that have insane +/- ratings in hockey that aren't worth a dime. Basketball will be the same with +/-.

I didn't know Monte played hockey

This isn't hockey, dude. +/- isn't a stat.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. Is basketball "not hockey" or is it the same?

Why are you so mad about Jeff Schultz?

I don't know if it's a significant stat, but at the least, it's interesting. Certainly nothing to get upset about.

I don't know, but this is my logic for him starting. The slow starts in each half tend to go away shortly after he hits the floor.
Yep because he does not turn the ball over and creates for his teammates to score and himself once in awhile.

I think Fred also thinks Naz or Thomas is our best shot to stretch the defense with 3 point shooting and would ideally want one of them in the starting lineup. Monte and Kane have shot the 3 better than I thought they would at times but they're not that dagger 3 player we've had the previous 3 years, Naz and Thomas can be.

This kid will be a flat out stud for ISU, and like most Mr. BB from Michigan, he will play in the NBA someday.

Using hockey as a basis for your argument extends the definition of silly to new bounds. +/- may be invalid (I don't know) but using a different sport to make your point is...pointless. Now, use +/- in the context of Cricket and we may have something.
