Recruit Lists v2.0

Even against the poor competition you can see the oozing potential that he possesses. Our front court is pretty much set for the next couple years (Niang, Hogue, Nader, Mckay) and it's going to be hard to find and convince an immediate impact transfer (mins cap) who is good enough to crack into those guys' minutes while probably only having one or two years of eligibility. Why not get a freshman who can crack the rotation and be developed and groomed under Fred? I see NBA written all over Malou, especially since he still has four years of college eligibility.

Hell, the fact that he even put his name out there in last year's draft (as a 19 yr old) shows what kind of talent he can be.

I never said don't get Malou on the team. If Hoiberg thinks highly of him enough to offer, I'm sold. All I said is I have no evidence, for or against, Malou being an NBA caliber player.

Edit: That's weird, that quote wasn't from me.

Why are people thinking Nader is going to come off the bench? There have been so many instances where coaches and players have stated that Nader is the best player that ISU has. I very highly doubt that if he's the best player, like most of the team and coaches are saying, that he comes off the bench. We're going to start two guards, Nader will DEFINITELY start, McKay will likely start once eligible (or Hogue), and Niang will be a starter as well. So the question is not who will be the 6th man between McKay and Nader. The question is who will be the first off the bench between McKay and Hogue. My best guess is McKay comes off the bench.

I've never heard, read, or seen this from anyone other than a message board poster.

Looking good in drills practice and being the best player when playing team ball in the Big 12 are different. IMO this is the typical message board redshirt hype.

Internet hype can be legit or unwarranted. Obviously we don't know which, but we've heard not only from posters, but also players and coaches that Nader is a very talented young man.

In the past, when we've heard hype like this regarding transfers, it's usually been totally warranted.

Please point me to any of these quotes. Not being facetious; I just still don't know where this is coming from. Again, I am not saying Nader isn't the best player on the team. Just that, as far as I can tell, all of the chatter saying as much is coming out of this forum,. The McKay quote saying Nader is the hardest working, or impressed him the most player (not sure which he was answering) is the only actual quote I've read saying this.

That said, I certainly hope it's true!

There is a difference between being very talented and saying a redshirt from NIU is the best player on the team.
Also, looking good in practice and being the best player in the context of Big 12 team play is different.

Don't we have an extra Scholly since Bluford left?

Edit: Nevermind. Bluford leaving gave us 4 open Scholly's. Custer is 1. McKay is 2. 3 and 4 are still open.

Staff is aware of Malou and they are in the early stages of his recruitment but the staff is taking a wait and see approach. (From Hines). Probably waiting for Vaughn, possibly Cunningham and what transfers are out there at the end of the season. Odds of him being a Cyclone aren't as high as they were before, IMO.

Coaches have said he is good, but there is no instance that I know of where any coach has said he is the best player on the team. And the so many instances where other people are saying it? I know it was on a message board at some point, but was it from anyone close enough to the program to even make that claim? I think it was stated on a message board and it keeps getting repeated and now it has taken a life of it's own. I saw him the CCL league, I thought he was good but based on what I saw I wouldn't make the claim he is the best player on our roster. With all that said, it would be great if was he truly the best player we have right now.

USC has offered Malou. My guess is that he'll get a good amount of interest. USC wouldn't offer a midwest kid for kicks.

@5StarRecruits: 2014 ABCD Prep (IA) F Emmanuel Malou (@EmmanuelMalou) has picked up an offer from USC, per @VerbalCommits.

McKay, when asked who impressed him most I'm practice, said Nader. I'll have to find the link later.

IIRC the question was something like 'who's the hardest worker or has impressed you most' and he answer Nader.

“@bryce_mccauley: @ShowTime_McKay who is the hardest worker on this years team and who has impressed you most in practice?” Abdul Nader

Every four-year transfer that had to sit out a year under Fred has started when becoming eligible no? Booker started before being relegated to the bench if I remember correctly.

Hoiberg, hogue, and Jameel down in Ottumwa tonight for the Indian hills - Iowa western game. Gotta figure Freddy's gonna be plucking at least one of these guys from one from these two great teams
