No brainer? Add Central Florida and South Florida to Big 12

It's a "no brainer" in the sense that we would have to have no brains to do it

I can't see a way that this move would help the 10 current institutions at all.

Doing so would destroy the conference by reducing our revenues dramatically. If that were to happen, the two keystone programs of the conference, Oklahoma and Texas, would leave and the remaining structure would crumble to non-BCS status. Other than that, its a great idea. Now, if UCF came along with 5 other BCS programs to put us at 16 teams, that might work...but we'll have to wait for the ACC to crumble, and it will in the next decade due to low revenues, to add 5 other substantial teams.
 
UCF has no history, it expands or geographic footprint beyond what is manageable for non-revenue sports, and frankly the basketball round-robin schedule is the best in college bb.

edit - the ONLY benefit I see is having hot orlando girls in the background of football games once every other year.

We probably could get an orlando Bowl out of this.
 
I would rather schedule a Florida team every year than have one join a conference, as it would help recruiting. If a Florida team is added to the Big 12 it would hurt us when recruiting there. Who would want to come to ISU and play in the Big 12 when you can stay at home at a UCF/USF...
 
There is going to be a time in the next 5 years that schools in a conference with 14 16 teams it's just not worth it, it will be a meat grinder of a schedule and how are ya ever going to win a conference championship!

Frankly UCF has as much history as we do, and one more BCS bowl.

The round robin basketball is great, but can ultimately drop our good teams a few notches by playing more good teams on the road.

When we win more than 3 out of 9 conference games.

No. They have much less history than we do. Basketball wasn't even more than a club sport at [then] Florida Technological University in 1970. Their football program has been around since 1980, and began Div II play in 1982. That's Division II.... Not Div I-AA, which they began playing in during the 1990 season. Finally, in 1996, they became a Division I school.

Obviously, their consistent winning in the past 10 years under George O'Leary in C-USA is impressive and all, but simply because they've now won a BCS bowl does not mean they have as much history as we do.
 
The reactionary aspects of realignment are always mind numbing. The PR hit from adding these two schools alone would be more than the B12 would be able to overcome.
